Default lowering blocks

any one done them before? just been reading up and im kinda interested hahaha
maybe 1" block to lower my car that 1 more inch. that be sweet.

whats every 1's opionoins? cus i spose its that or compressing the springs.

Don't know but I would have thought you can only use the blocks on a leaf spring set up as in the rears of the utes and wagons, and some insurance companys get a bit strange about that idea as well. having said that I ran 2'' on the rear of my XY ute and they worked fine ..

did u have steel block or aluminium, i was told aluminium 1's tend to crack/split etc.

Steel from memory, If you are going to use them just recheck all the nuts for a while after fitting them mine worked loose for a couple of weeks, usually after some twisty mountain driving :

don't know how you plan to use lowering blocks on a sedan... or are they for another car? they are for leaf springs, not coils...leaf springs normally mount under the diff, so all the lowering blocks to is raise the diff a bit higher from the spring... coils mount on top, so it's not possible

i run alloy 1inch blocks in my wagon they are fine hey neva had a drama with em........ they are only for leaf springs you cant use them on sedans.....

Yep blocks are for leaf springs only.

Why don't you just cut the springs shorter?

I know it's illegal, ruins the handling and will void any insurance....but you sound like to sort that doesn't care about such things.

Anyway to the OP have a look at these, might be worth a go, if not pretty simple to revert back to ho it is now.

You have to be careful running lowering blocks in AU-BF, if you put too big of a block in, the bottom of the shock mount(IIRC) hits the inside of the wheels, so you need to run bigger wheels.

This is correct. I've read a parts catalogue recently (Whiteline suspensions IIRC) where they state the maximum size lowering block they'll do for AU is 1".

Those things have been around for years and i was warned off them by a few spare parts shops... apparently dangerous and unreliable.

you can always have the rear Leafs reset, if you dont want to run blocks.

Lowering blocks only work on leaf springs.
Coil spring rear ends need new lowered coils, the existing coils reset, the existing coils cut, or spring clamps.

Lowering blocks are not dangerous, however they aren't ideal either. I don't like how they allow excess spring wind up. Handling is made worse when blocks are used typically increasing bump steer.
Resetting and adding a leaf (recommended) is by far the best way.

With coils, the best way is to use new lowered coils.
Second best way is to cut a coil (ironically illegal, however not at all dangerous if done properly).
Third best is to have them reset. I'm not keen on this as it keeps the same spring rate, which really should be higher due to now having less travel.
Lastly spring clamps. These work, but are reasonably unreliable as they have a tendency to move around. They are not dangerous however.

Spring Clamps are illegal and DANGEROUS ! Even the ebay add linked above states that they are for "show use" only..... Dont cut your springs either.
If its a sedan , dont be a cheap ****, buy lowered springs, or if its a wagon get the leaf springs reset.
You cant put a price on safety.

For the record I seem to recall eXi7w0unD's car is already on ultra-lows with 20inch wheels.

I wanna know how he would go by going any lower, yes there was scepticism in the tone, but there wss no intention of malice involved, if you think there is, report my post(s) and let the mods deal with it.

haha nuh, theirs a copy cat (i so wish to beat him up) driving an au that looks like mine SIGH. my car has been in the garage for 3 months now. turned it into a project car. i drive 07 model sr5 hilux these days for work.

yea this is an old thread, back then i wanted my car lower, cus on ultras with 20's it not tucking rim which i would like it to. thats all.

when it comes time, i will compress the springs so my car scrapes on zee ground muahahah. i love impractical and difficult. :P

I can't believe what I'm reading. Cut springs and lowering blocks are ILLEGAL. They are ILLEGAL because they are DANGEROUS. The are dangerous because they put you and any other road user at risk of a crash when they fail. Some people just have to learn the hard way & unfortunately the innocent don't get a choice.

For godsake save a bit more and get the proper stuff for your car and be proud & confident of your mods and enjoy the real benefit of the mod rather than just the look.
