Yep they sold very well! Saw some efigy's at Chadstone the other night and the Coupe 60 has been a huge hit!

The focus on all the manufacturers this year will be on small and cute with the Fiesta taking front row. There will be a noticable lack of 1 offs from pretty much everyone with the focus on selling what they have to offer rather than just showing off what could have been ..... like Holden does every time.

Ford? Mondeo wagon at best. Possibly a teaser to the facelift Territory. I'd say thats it. The days of the R5, 300+ etc are gone :(

Holden, the fanboys at LS1 having been talking up a VE Monaro, but I highly doubt it. The Coupe60 is the closest they'll get after the VT-based Monaro failed to break even. The Coupe60 was even based on the current VE wheelbase.

Camaro will be there, but I doubt it will be introduced into the market with the FC.

As was the previous Monaro. Considering there's only one motor show this year it may force Ford to Unveil things sooner (if there's anything to unveil that is).

Holden only projected to sell 4000 units i think and lucky to break even. They sold 8000+ in the end. I think they did end up making a profit out of it all.

coupe60 was a impressive package last time i layed eyes on it . I would be extremely jealous if they released that.
There was talk of the kuga being released in oz months ago. Is the Kuga a possibility.

Ah yes, Kuga. That is due and is a great car from what I've read. However, that would only further hinder Territory sales. At a time when the new Terri is due, that would not be good at all..

but isn't the Kuga the size of a Focus?

as a comparision, older (before they made them bigger) Rav 4 VS Prado?

Kuga is based on Focus, yes. It is a direct competitor to the Volkswagen Tiguan, which is based on a Golf. Diesel only at the moment, which might be a problem in Australia. Once the I5T and DSG box arrive, there might be a better business case for this car.

Holden are all show, no substance. It is rare for a concept of theirs at a Motor Show to actually enter production. Monaro was the most recent one from memory, however Torana did show the future of Holden's Design.

Whilst that is the case, Holden wil be getting all the attention at the show and in the media. This low profile approach from Ford in everything they do isnt working.

On a lighter note, maybe they will surprise us wth a Focus RS...

Now that is something I would like to see, also a bit more realistic than a GTHO or 2 door Falcon (I know nobody has asked for it, but it is only a matter of time)

At least Holden had the balls to build a coupe, a damn fine looking one at that, although it did have its fair share of build quality issues but thats another story. How sweet would a BG Coupe look and it would sure do wonders for Ford's image. IMO 2 doors is a prerequisite for consideration as a true muscle car.

No hope what so ever, with all of the current money woes Ford have, a GTHO is at least 4 years off.

Torana on the other hand, I don't expect it but Holden can surprise.

I personally don't know why people get so upset that Ford don't build these concepts, When was the last time Ford or Holden (not FPV or HSV) release a car based on one of these concepts, there was no Commodore hatch ( VY SSX) there was no RWD Torana, There was no R5 (?) ute and there was no 300+ AU Falcon coupe.

I would much rather see new real product, maybe announce that a Mondeo wagon will become available, or show off the Ford Kuga (which is far too small to pinch sales off Territory, it could be a decent replacement for the ancient Escape). This would be a far more effective use of the motorshow. Ford OZ can not afford to waste money on a concept that will never see the light of day.

there is a link between concept cars and sales, just because the concept doesn't go into build doesn't mean it was a waste of money and time. it shows the public that you have fresh new ideas and are willing to experiment. look at all the media attention Holden get every time they do a concept. If Ford ever made a good looking concept then maybe for once we'd get some good publicity from the media, instead of all this doom and gloom crap

*WARNING PERSONAL OPINION BELOW*

All I know is this new deal sucks where we only get a motor show every 2nd year now because Sydney can't maintain their numbers is stupid.

We got formula one with the motor show it makes sense every car nut is here so why cancel ours just cancel Sydney and be done with it instead of this 50/50 stupid deal.

Why should we have to subsidize some stupid Sydney car show especially considering we are getting a bigger exhibition centre as well

Doubt the S-Max is coming. There's no real market for it. The Carnival/Tarago van duopoly has gone on for over 10 years now and the average soccermum would still go for that Merc or Land Cruiser.

While I do respect your opinion, I think you need to know the reason they are exchanging motorshows on a biyearly basis.

If they (Melbourne Motor Show Organisers) were to be stubborn, and not go into this deal, the show would not be worth attending. Just look at some of the manufacturers missing from last years Sydney show: Meredes Benz, BMW, Land Rover, Jaguar, Porsche, Aston Martin, Ferrari. Basically a Who's who of the car world. That is why nobody went to last years Sydney show.

Now you are probably wondering why does that affect the Melbourne show, well, most of those manufacturers will not be at Melbourne this year, without a deal like this both Melbourne and sydney's shows would be nothing but a farce in the coming years, and probably wouldn't last another 5.

I don't actually like the idea of having to wait 2 years for a show, but it beats having no show at all. With any luck in the future the Australian International Motor Show will be among the biggest like Detroit, Tokyo, Paris/ Frankfurt and Geneva.
