I would like to see the supercharged motor from the new GT40 in a falcon. For the above pic as fancy as it looks there's something about the sound of a V10 thats just not right. Like the old Dick Johnson commerial "2 more pistons than you really need"

Sounds like a great place to holiday, doesn't it?

Problem is, this engine won't make a traditional GTHO, but it will knock the socks off every FPV naysayer. The sooner it appears, the better.

Engine porn. I'd so have one. How much of it is speculation and how much real?

Oh yay!!! It's been 2 whole weeks since a thread on a possible GTHO revival had been posted. I'm glad I got my fix, I was starting to have withdrawal symptons.

One thing is for certain, FPV will have their hands on a powertrain that will certainly do a modern GTHO justice, whether they release it as a GTHO is the question.

Certainly in the current economic climate, no.

Revisit the subject in a couple of years perhaps...assuming petrol prices don't skyrocket (again) by then, but I'm guessing your average potential GTHO owner probably wouldnt care anyway!

That's right.

More than likely that any new GTHO will be parked in a garage for a VERY long time and that's about it.

i recon ford Aust will be more concerned about securing their future through this recession, (see GMH..), than worry about a Hero car. it will come, but not in next 12 months probably.

They should re-engineer a 5.8 V8 carby with modern day bits n bobs, make it run 11's and badge it an HO. Flame suit on! Oh and I'm aware that this is never going to happen. Just dreaming.

Ok, I spoke to Rod Barrett a while ago and he said the GTHO will come as soon as 6.2L Hurricane engine in full production but it'll be release in FG MKll range. We have to wait and see.

I heard theyve been talking with Buggati with engines and gearboxes. It may be getting a detuned W16 quad turbo and 7 speed auto.

I this is about as close to conjecture as it gets.

Quote:
Mr Barrett said that a revival of the GTHO nameplate after more than three decades has not progressed past his own desk and was definitely on the backburner.

“It wouldn’t be as close as it was 18 months ago when you first spoke to me. 18 months ago, when I first started (at FPV), things were different. There were so many other things that came in front of it – we had to get the FG up and running, there were eight cars there, the F6X …

“The GTHO was always, and still is, a long-term project. I’d still love to do it (but) it’s a young kid’s dream – and he turns 49 this year.”

I believe GTHO is a no win situation for FPV so I suspect it will just be hinted at a LOT but never actually built.

The reasons for my belief.

1) The W427 was not a brilliant success and it was a simple plug and play parts bin project, the LS7 was complete and compliable out of the crate. A Ford V8 will wither be home brewed or use one of the extremely expensive "special engines".

2) If the GTHO is not VASTLY superior to the W427 and much more importantly the F6 the backlash from the "true believers" will be spectacular.

3) If the GTHO is vastly superior the anti ford pro holden media hacks (and there are several of them) will attempt do an "Evan Green" on it similar to that done when the first F6 was announced in 2004.

4) The majority of FPV buyers and enthusiests have shown repeatedly that they are more interested in badges, stripes and noise than performance. The bog standard GT with striped constantly outsells every other model including the clearly performeance superior F6 and the only sucessful "special" models were bog standard GTs with limited edition badges and stripes. Force 8/6 and F6 RSpec were duds, GT40 and Cobra were winners.

5) The majority of FPV buyers are very price sensitive and to create a vehicle that complies with all the rules while delivering the required performance will ensure that it will cost at least as much as the W427 so $150k car while adored by many will, I suspect, just sit in the showrooms covered in drool with the few actual potential buyers waiting for discounting. The $150k market also features Nissan GTR, Audi S5, AMGs and BMW M3 so it will be a lot tougher to sell to any other than "true blue".

This is all very harsh but unfortunately true, there would be very few members of this forum who own a car that cost $100k let alone $150k and we are a reasionable cress section of Ford enthusuests.

Where are all the Shelby Mustang or Ford GT etc owners? No we are GT with stripes, XR6 turbo, G6ET buyers and that is where the money is....
