Default Au Xr6 Or Au Xr8?

Howdy guys, would like some opinions on these cars.We are looking at swapping the BA Futura wagon for either a AU XR6 11 or 111 and possibly a AU XR8.These are the cars at question.sorry no pics but assume the vehicles are a good honest 8/10 minimum all round. It took a while to narrow it down to these three.

#1=AU XR611,redhot duco,auto,124,000km,tickford 17s,full service history(country car),straight, minor stonechips at front and the usual options.Standard car all round and is non VCT.$9,900.

#2=AU XR6111,slate metallic grey,auto,140,000km,16inch alloys, same options as above,no service history and a repo vehicle, non VCT and pretty much the same condition as above.$10,900.

#3=AU XR8 1998,polar white,auto,121,000km,full service history, towbar, spotlights, very clean and straight and same options as above.
$9,900.

Now the car is going to be mainly driven by the other half as the wagon is not her cup of tea.Is their much difference in total kms to tank in the windsor to the i6 with normal driving?Im leaning towards the XR8 due to the kms per year ratio(ver low)still feels new.Opinions much appreciated.cheers.

gilmore,

i would consider the xr8 too...basically more for your money...option 2 for me would be #1 the country car Xr6...if its not going to be your car, then talk to your partner and ask her if she would prefer the 6 or 8...but if i were you, i would lean towards the xr8...

I'd keep looking personally but out of those 3 I'd go option 1 (It's called Venom Red btw).

The XR8 is a SI so it gets a no vote from me. For 11-12k you could find a good AUII XR8 or a very good AUII/III XR6 VCT. Have you thought about a Fairmont Ghia VCT?

If you were going to be content with an I6, then it'd be option #1 for me.

If you really want an 8, then I'd keep looking. I personally would go for a S2 220 if I had the dosh.

I have come across some 11 & 111 VCTs but they all seem to be manual in Adelaide or have over 200,000kms.The Fairmont was the first one i looked for but none avaliable at the moment.I forgot to mention that we are looking at a straight swap too as wagon still has money owing.I like the AU111 but the repo and no history is something that ive never had in a car before, probably not a issue. The car has to be auto and under 150,000kms.What has the XR8 not got going for itself being a series 1?
Im getting 10k trade in which aint to bad.I will still give myself time just in case something else does come up.This place though seems to be giving the best trade in by at least 1k.By no means is it the reason that ive posted these cars as the only ones i will look at,just so happens he had some cars that interested her.Got the trade in price first then went looking.cheers guys.

ps.the guy has a AU 11 XR8 220 for 10,900 but its manual,190,000km.I dont drive the car the most though. This car is a dead set bargain.Venom red 2.

S1 AUs had inferior brakes to the S2-3.

The front and rear bars are much nicer also.

The interior trims were nicer, especially the heater/radio controls etc.

It's horses for course though, but I think that the S2 is much more preferable to the S1.

All the best with your deliberations.

As most have said, series 2 or 3 only for me.
Option 1 seems to be the best of the 3.

hey mate...sorry about the earlier post didnt realise the Xr8 was only a series one...in that case go for option one..and keep looking for a series 2 XR8...i would walk away from option 2, mainly because its a repo car and has no history, but if you are able to get a grand or more off, it maybe worth considering..keep looking and good luck

Yeah I'd go for option 1 aswell, when you say it will be a daily and you mention tank I assume you mean the millage you would get out of it, if you are talking in town driving, you would be better of with the XR6 over the XR8, on the hwy the XR8 can be justified but in town it does use more.

Red XR6 looks good like the others i would
go with that or if you want a V8 then look for a S2 or 3
i dont think there is much in the fuel use unless your wife
is a leadfoot like mine as when she drives my car it seems to use a
lot more fuel with her driving

yeah mines the same as yours.ill give her the turbo for a couple days and it comes back with a higher ltrs/100km going by the trip metre.Since the convertor went in though it has now changed and she no longer wants to drive it,lol. We cant get the looks of the venom red AU11 out of our heads. He has no probs in letting me take it back to the dyno centre and going over it for a day to which is a bonus.

If I had to pick from those 3, i'd have to say the xr8, but only if it has the bodykit and original rims

Of course a s2 or s3 xr8 220 is the way to go.

That's just the normal hp engine (non-vct). VCT has the words VCT at the front with a bulge.

Cheers, Anthony

Is it a standard rocker cover, or HP engine?. For 9500 i would be happy if it was a daily, my preference is HP over VCT anyway

HP engine.I like the HPs better too.The one that has 200,000km feels very strong, probably the best we have tested so far.I have a feeling we are going to have a harder choice than the xr6t gave us.Ive forgotten how nice the AUs are to drive.

It really depends through, if its only going to be a daily driver any car in the BA range is a comfortable, easy drive. One thing I always thought the AU lacked compared to the BA is driver comfort, I would take an AU for drivability anyday though and looks in the XR range.

In my opinion the price difference isnt worth it for the BA

Yeah fair enough I was a tad vague, this is my personal opinion though.

I own a SII XR6 VCT, my dad owns a BA Futura. Both petrol only, I find my XR to be more responsive, about 15-20% better in fuel economy.
Also from my experience I have found the AU to be more reliable(repairs, upkeep), that could also be driving styles though, but it is my dads daily so he doesnt thrash it.

The reason I say its not worth the extra 5-6k that most people would be expecting for a BA XR6T, there are no major feature apart from the the turbo that set these two apart and as it is a daily that extra power isnt necessary.

Thats just my opinion though
