Question Au Xr8 E.c.u

just looking for some advice guys, as my other thread said i was having some dramas with my car. The auto sparky found the E.C.U to be faulty (at least he thinks so) he's tried the B.C.M and done a few other test but all else seems to be fine.
Now im wondering if anyone knows of a Manual E.C.U that is in perfect working order i can buy or possibly borrow to do some diagnosis as a brand new one is around 800 and i dont really want to spend that if its not the fault.
or
Is there an aftermarket E.C.U that i could use instead of the factory item, I thought this may work out better in the long run as i want to get it all tuned eventually and possibly go even further with it (blown).
thanks in advance for any advice.

eugene

p.s It's a SII XR8 220 i don't know if you can use other series ecu's like SI/SIII or it has to be same series and everything.

Try a wrecker. Ford wanted $1200 for one, picked one up at the wreckers for $300. Auto ele'c ran my car on a 6 cyl computer just to confirm that it was the ECU. I have no idea why because you could see the corroded pins.

Water has been known to seep in below the windcreen, run down the loom and settle in the computer plug. Have a look in my build thread for info - I think it's about 4 or 5 pages in.

As DW260 said, ask the wrecker if you can return if its not the problem, Im sure they would understand and help you out.

Try Fordpower in Maddington, ask for Skin, That's the owner.

I got the auto sparky's to ring FTG on thurs or fri but they didnt get back to me so i will be calling them tomorrow to find out what they found out. they had never heard of em but i told them to definatly ring them.

cheers

Could a Ford dealer flash the 220 program?

I don't think it's as simple as re-flashing, Ford wanted all the numbers from my old one just to confirm they were ordering the correct one. Apparently they are very unique to each series, type, trans etc etc.

Having said that though, I could be wrong.

The only things that need to match are injector size, TB/MAF size and trans. The 200 and 220 have the same injectors and are the same TB & MAF (if only slightly different) and is a manual. I ran my Ghia 175kw ECU for the T3 stroker to get it up to the dealership for the new ECU to get programmed into my BEM, was a bit rough but with the same injector size it did an alright job.

A custom tune would fix it up for a different MAF/TB size etc, most things can be flash tuned out.

well the computer was the correct catch code buuuut it still didn't fix it, they think it is a communication error between the B.C.M and E.C.U although the wiring is all fine?!

With an ECU change they both need to be reprogrammed together, only Ford can do this. I had the same problem when I put my new motor in with the new ECU, car just would not start at all and didn't even try to crank, the smartshield light should come up after you try. Used the old ECU to get the car up to the local dealer and they reprogrammed it in with the new ECU ... you may need to get it towed since it isn't moving anywhere atm.

Hmm I went to a local tuner and they said only Ford were able to do it, maybe give Ford a call and see what they say? Are you getting any spark or any sign of it trying to crank?

Definitely has to do with Smartlock not kicking in, if its not the ECU then the BEM is at fault, it controls the immobiliser side of things and if its not making proper contact with the ECU (like if they weren't configured together properly) then you have no spark/crank/anything to get it started.
