Default AU dedicated gas Turbo's ???

has any one done this used: , cant find stuff all - other than Turbo taxi , but was duel fuel....
would this be a good idea/motor for this ? wanna go an I6 on straight gas and thought a hairdryer was a good option ! Au lpg's where the first dedicated gas motors , so i spose there are a few probs with this motor used: used: used:
would an ea - ef motor be a better option converted to straight gas
cheers - any info would be much appreciated

i don`t have one, but my brother and his mate both did lpg turbo on their cars, both were sorry they did the lpg(old style setup), brothers mate spent thousands, made big power (400 + kws from a 3 litre) but found keeping the fuel properly metered in the old system a big problem, my brother runs his rich all the time to be safe, sorta defeats the purpose of economy lpg , i`m not trying to influence you one way or the other , just reporting they`re experiences, someone might pipe up with a better experience, good luck.

BA E Gas motor would be better than E series motors, they have the good rods and internals already in them, and their not to expensive from the wreckers,

dont the dedicated gas engines run high compression??? around 10.8?? that would be way to high for a turbo

Not sure on the comp, but Chris (G&D Jet) was messing with one for his XR 6T Pretty sure the later ones (mk11) had the same rods as the Foons, there was a thread here someware ages ago about them , as to fitting in the AU my guess would be a Hi series bonnet and may be a sump mod would do it , but I may be wrong, but either way sounds like a tuff project :

I'd do it all the other way around, buy a BA XR6T and turbo it.

About the only thing you lose on is they look boring and over-popular and the headlight switch is on the stalk ( : )

I would say going SVI setup for turbo is the best way to go. Dont bother with a mixer ring setup. Too many fiddly issues.

There have been a few people here with xr6 turbos doing SVI setups and are getting excellent gains and good economy. Something to think about.

installing the turbo kit to start with is a pain, oil lines etc,

then unless you spend massive money on a solid bottom end, i was qouted $7000 for bullet proof, there is always a chance that a rod ETC will let go.

then you will need head work, valves, cams, computer, upgraded gear box, fuel system (or gas), then there is always the chance of boost spike and blowing it all down the drain, the list goes on

if i was to do it again id buy a F6 drive line and just wind the boost up a little, it would be hell of a lot cheaper and more reliable,

thats just my 2 cents from experience
