just wondering what the fastest small car ford has built would be. I assume the Capri probably tops the list but some cortinas also had the 4.1l engine and the escorts would have been fairly quick too. I guess my question is really Capri vs Cortina vs Escort in 0 to 100 times and also what could you get in those for under 5k?

I RS2000 escort so 110bhp pinto does 0-100 in 9.8sec
I would bet the TX3 turbo lasers go faster than that. What about the new XR5's? And the UK cosworth escort is my bet to be the quickest. |

Officially RS200 is still the fastest ford 0-60 (miles) in about 3 sec.....but you wont get one of those for $5000.
Turbo laser will get you to 100 quicker than a Capri or Cortina, but its nothing but a badged up Mazda. |

if you are talking Escort / Cortina / Capri, for $5k, then I would think a 250 Cortina would have to be the quickest in a straight line. However, if you want to go around corners, these werent the best. You wouldnt find a decent V6 Capri for that cash (maybe something that needs a lot of work), however, you would get a good 2 ltre Escort.
