Hi all
Has anyone changed seat foam on the drivers side seat in an AUII? I need to redo mine. Power Ford quoted $50 for the seat paddding and $120 for the back pad. Uk

Yeah
we used to do them at the cabs iirc if you take the seat out of the car and the rails off the seat you're left with three pieces, seat frame, seat foam and seat cloth. The cloth is just held in there by some upholstery clips (like big curvy staples) and once you take them off, then you can peel back the cloth and out comes your stinky, smelly, odd coloured munted foam (that you didn't think was so bad) and then you replace it with the pristine new stuff and put it all back together again and proclaim how wonderful the AU was when new and that you wonder if all parts of the AU are getting that bad.

You don't need to take the seat out of the car, just get the correct size allen key or allen headed socket and ratchet. Raise the seat as much as you can and attack the seat base bolts from underneath. slide the seat forwards on it's runners to do the front 2 and back to do the rears. The hardest part is getting the wire rings off and back on to the wire retainers but as Ragtop says, a good set of hog ring pliers and rings makes like a whole lot easier. Bushbasher

Do you think it would be just as easy to do with the leather seats in a fairmont ghia?

robjunior has done this too IIRC.
In any case, he's had some seats apart. Perhaps send him a PM. GK

I did my seat base recently. All went well until I got to the clips. Couldn't figure them out and didn't want to do any damage so quick trip down to the Auto Trimmer and 20 bucks later all good. Made a big difference. Previous owner must have been right side heavy.
Cheers.

Uncle Ken,
Track down some hog ring pliers and hog rings - they are available from hardware and upholstery suppliers. This is what I used when I reupholstered an interior on one of my cars: http://www.drakeautomotivegroup.com/...M.aspx?wid=141 They make it soooo much easier to reassemble.

My au wagon is a1999 mod and has had the seat done twice in 10 years. The new base material will last longer if you place a piece of good carpet under it before you put it all together.

Just a quick question to you guys who've bought the seat cushion/foam from ford. Do you have a part number for the seat cushion/foam? I am chasing a couple up for my ghia, which I've recently bought xr6 seats for. I'm planning on sewing up some new seat covers for them. Here's a couple of iphone shots of the base I've just sewn up.
The cover is only just quickly put on over the seat base and looks a bit lumpy (it still needs to be hog rung to the cushion). What I'll be doing is making the covers just like the factory covers, pull the original covers off, and hog ringing the new one's directly to the foam cushion itself. Anyway, I'm hoping Ford still have the seat cushion available. Cheers |

I picked up a base about six months ago from Southside Ford (sponsers on here) so should still be available. Can't remember the part number but will check for you tonight. Cheers, Ian

I agree dezza, the e-series was off, and the AU is almost smack on. Wouldn't hurt if the steering wheels was just a couple of mil to the left however.

I've had a lardarse sitting in my ute too (previous owner) so this is good info to have. Think I'll let a trimmer do the swap though.

Part number for the XR style base is ERT F63222A.
I went to Park Ford in Victoria Park and the parts expert told me you couldn't buy just the base, then asked for my VIN and provided a price of $900 plus dollars for all the foam in the driver's chair. Wasn't bothering me to spend that much but sent the rep from Southside Ford on here a PM and he came back with the part number and a price of just over $100 I think. I had no problems getting the base from the chair but getting the cushion out with all the clips proved a little complicated so a local trimmer sorted it for $20. Cheers, Ian

$900 or $100. It amazes me that you can get such a wide range and advice from dealers.

That part number is for the foam base out of a series 2/3 XR. Not sure if the 1's were any different...

Local Ford dealer says ERT F63222A is NLA. They also had a part # that began with AUII but also NLA. This part was priced at $500 retail.
Did any of you guys have any luck obtaining one of these?
