I pondered this on the way home last night
So the Boss didn't fit under the bonnet and thus the bonnet bulge. The Coyote is fast approaching and from my reading is a much more compact motor. So my question is what do you think will happen to the bonnet of the V8's

The bulge will remain, don't need to waste money on panel parts when the driveline is a priority.

Realisticly FPV V8 sales have always been rather "bling" driven as can be demonstrated by the ratio of stripes vs non-stripes and sales success of the GT40/Cobra vs the F6 Rspec. FPV would be mad to drop the bulge. |

The bulge costs Ford a motza to make (while they certainly charge us for it), I see it surviving the FG (cause it's already done), but Ford won't bother spending any money on doing it on a future model if it's not needed. Sad, but same as the 'quad lights' XR look, that's been watered down over the years and FPV aren't doing it any more.

i hope they keep it but i reckon ford will go the easy option of dropping the bonnet if the new 8 fits under it, probably easier for them to do that & set another visual difference to the fpv's? than keep making a different bonnet. i guess it will all depend on a few things
a) will the fpv version fit under the normal bonnet b) if the xr8 goes to fpv, keep the bonnet to show a theme (fpv's have the bonnet) c) if the xr8 stays with ford use the bonnet as a point of difference between the xr8 & fpv. guess we will find out soon enough.. |

People love the bonnet bulge, hence why people are starting to put them on their AUs and i6 BAs and FGs.
It's also a point of differentiation between Ford V8s and Holden V8s, and replacing the bulge with nostrils would only close that gap, something I and many others wouldn't want. |

I would like to see the bulge go on the GTE, but wouldn't mind it staying on the V8 models.

Sure it's not needed to fit the V-mount supercharger under the hood?

I for one love the bulge, espically on the FG, it is crafted on the FG to look better than the BA/F.

the BA bulge looked great but the FG has smoother edges and flows better. Makes them look very sinister and really adds something else to the car.

Back on topic, I think there will be only very minimal changes to the panels of the FG altogether, meaning reshaped front and rear bumpers come, say, 2012? The bulge will be here until 2016, where the Falcon's future turns to an almighty "?". |

The BA XR8/GT was supposed to get the 5.4 3V engine, but Tickford engineers could not get the power levels out of it that they wanted, so a late decision was made to switch to the 4V heads, which required the bulge to fit the manifold under. |

The bulge looks good, but only if it's there for a purpose, if it's needed for blower/inlet manifold clearance, fine, otherwise, ditch it. Not a fan of fake bulges/vents/air intakes/cooling ducts/scoops/etc. My vote is for a dirty great hole in the bonnet with a polished 6/71 sticking out of it........

Wont be a flat bonnet and probably not a bulge to the current height but there will be something there. It is, by definition, Ford V8 by design.
