Seems to be a lot of talk about these 2 things coming to the Falcon which are meant to be the holy grail. Everyone keeps saying this is what the Falcon needs (which may be the case) but yet I don't know a single person who would part with there $$$ and buy one?
So who here is planing buying one? |

I touch on this in another thread and was shot down because people assumed that I was implying that an Ecoboost 4 cyl Falcon would be no good (which I wasn't).
I just don't know in what models would the Ecoboost be in? XT, G6? I can't see it being in an XR6 or G6E. Is it possible Ford will drp the 6cyl from the XT and make it a fleet special with 'green credentials'? I am curious (and hope whatever strategy Ford uses is successful) on how Ford are going to pitch this motor option. Like the OP, discussing it with my circle of freinds and colleagues, some who currently own FG Falcons have said they would not be interested in buying one. Basically their opinion is that they would rather buy a Mondeo (especially the XR5 model) if they were buying a turbo 4 cyl. |

I have been hearing really good things about people who have driven the Ecoboost Falcon. They say they are really surprised with the amount of performance they are getting over the 195kW barra 4.0L. They've said there is absolutely no down points on it over the straight 6. I'm definitely looking forward to driving one and judging it then. There's no point to these threads before we have more information on the engine and how it handles the bulk of the Falcon.

Consider the ecoboost a way to continue enjoying a Falcon in the times of great commodity price increases. Ie fuel. It's when you have to, but don't want to, downsize. (tm - not! Ford you can use this line if you ever advertise it!)
My 2c, I'd have one as a wagon. Pity about that. As for diesel, yep as well. The Territory diesel will be a great car to own. |

Modern turbo diesel in Falcon is a no brainer for anyone but Oz Ford decision makers. In 3 years they will be telling us how diesel in Falcon would be a great idea.
Diesel would create new perception of a Falcon as a fuel efficient and spacious touring car that does city traffic easily without extra fuel costs. Not to mention competitive edge over Holden product. Make it available in a wagon shape and it would be a winner. Would I buy one - yes. Ecoboost no thanks. Look at CX7 with boosted 2.3 . Diesel already has the perception of being thrifty on fuel.
Eco-boost will require money by Ford to promote. A diesel Falcon would have effectively sold itself by changing the perception of the masses of what a Falcon is and could be. In fact, if it cost $30M to put in there. That could be less than they need to spend to get the Eco-Boost name out there. Would i buy either. Probably not. I love the I6 Falcons in both NA and boosted form. But the diesel would be my pick if the I6 wasn't around. I would seriously consider the diesel Territory though. Would probably mod it to up the output to 170kW/480Nm.

Meh... I think it's much of a muchness really. Both will offer good performance for driving around town, but the diesel will be better low down. At the end of the day, if you're buying a straight six falcon you're not buying it for outright performance - if you wanted that you'd be buying the XR6 Turbo really wouldn't you?

Turbo Diesel Falcon G6E Wagon.. MMMM!!!!! 1000 km range.. 400-550 NM... 120-160 kw ?? 0-100 6-7 seconds..
Sporty/ economical wagon.... ecoboost may open up oportunity's for 4 cylinder fleet cars... |

just a quick note, i dont think the eco boost could be in an xr6 form as that would require it to have 6 cylinders, xr4 and xr5 are already taken, maybe bring back the old sr or s name plate?

whilst ever they're making that straight 6 turbo, i wouldn't consider anything else...ok, maybe a s/c coyote...

If either would come in a manual then I'd have a look. I guess a diesel would be more appealing.
LPG would be better for me, just need a factory one in manual with a proper set-up tyre in the boot.

Im not going to have a car that sounds like a tractor and goes like a datsun just to save $2.85 a week

But, I want a G8E!!! October this year will see a Calais V V8 in my garage. FORD have nothing to offer..

In my view, the jury is out on these two options til I drive one or the other or both.....However right now I wouldn't have either based on what I read around here.
I guess I'm from that long stroke lazy lump of torque generation.....
