I'm on a couple of other forums and there is interest for a cortina/capri/escort club..


We are in the start of organising one and seeing if anyone around brisbane is keen to get in on the act.

Good luck forming the club.

I helped start the ACT Small Ford Owners Club back in 2000, with just 5 of us.
We found there was a definite gap in the local club scene for the small classic Fords in the Canberra region. Since then we have had upwards of thirty members, with vehicles ranging from 1948 Anglia, thru Cortinas, Escorts, Capris hardtop and conv. WE have also recently become more liberal in membership of the larger Fords, following the demise of the ACT Ford Club (Falcons, Fairlane, F100s) some years ago. Like any club, we have had our ups and down, but still going strong.

It seems the interest in the smaller classic Fords is still there, and if anything, the club scene is getting stronger as the vehicles age and parts become harder to find.

Cruises, Obs runs, social outings, and of course our Classic Ford Muster in October each year (the 14th event I think, with 80 people/45cars attending last year).

im in the Small Ford Car Club NSW & we recently started accepting later model small fords like Focus, Telstar, Laser, Fiesta.

We have had a few guys that used to be in the club scene but no longer have the old car but like the club scene & have joined with their everyday driver & we have seen some interesting cars come out of the woodwork that clubs dont usually cater for like focus ST170 & KA laser turbo. There is also other late model cars like sierra's, mk1 & 2 Focus & XR5's in the club

Its something worth considering as it adds a variety of cars & age groups to the club.

Another benifit is that I have a 2006 focus & mk2 cortina & while the cortina is off the road I can still go to club events with the Focus.

Any club should be about enthusiasm and suport from like-minded others. Enjoy yours and respect others peoples choices and inCARnations. Just try spending some time at Tech in the restoration workshops - different badges but everyone is equally enthused about their projects....
Keep an open mind, you might just learn something useful.

Good to see some more modern stuff going clubbing in Sydney...more the merrier.

Yeah, all good points I was considering going the all Small Fords... it will get a few more people involved and it might just show young kids a taste of the older cars aswell...

What I will need though is some info on the basics of a club, having a committee etc... all that atm is a blurr and im trying to find out what i can.

As far as running a club goes:

In NSW there is an organisation that helps clubs run their clubs & is also a representative for them with the Govenment on car related issues & also the RTA for things like registration. Its called the CMC (Council of Motor Clubs) http://www.councilofmotorclubs.org.au/

It looks as though the Queensland club that does this is the Queensland Historic Motoring Council http://www.qhmc.org.au/

I would suggest contacting these people & they may beable to help you with some questions.

I think one thing you will have to do is set out what you want the club to achive.

Do you want it to be CAMS affiliated. Do you want historic registration.

Or is it just going to be a social club where you may have an internet forum or website where you go for cruises & shows.



I know as far as far as the Small Ford Car Club is concerned.
The people we have invoved in running the club is:
President
Vice President
Treasurer
CMC Delegate
Combined Ford Clubs Delegate
Historic Registration Officer
plus 4 committee members

If its only a small club you may not need as many people as this. But the idea is to share the load so that not only one person is loaded with all the work.

A basic break down of the roles:
- President - runs the show
- Vice President - helps run the club
- The Treasurer - Takes care of the clubs finances like membership, fundraisers, etc
- The delegates- attend the affiliated clubs meetings
- Historic Registration Officer - orgainses everything to do with club registration.
- Committee Members- help with the odds & ends like parking cars at shows, help run cruises, turn snags on the BBQ, etc

As far as events go. There is usually a monthly meeting where general buisness is discussed like future events, news, club accounts & sometimes a guest speaker.

Then there is the usually, cruises, shows, track days or what ever events you choose to hold.

Basically though all you need to get the ball rolling is a few active members & a few good events. The rest will follow as the membership grows

That would be great, at the moment the closest thing we have to that is Small Ford Sunday in Melbourne. There was around 12 of us convoy down from various clubs NSW for it this year & the numbers grow every year.

There is also going to be a show called the Cortina Nationals that will be held in a different state every year & clubs from all over Australia are welcome.

Are there any clubs in QLD that currently cater for Small Fords??

I dont know in any that cater for small fords (THAT I KNOW OF) but there is a UK Fords Club which is mainly small fords... just UK not aus fords.. so a couple of cortinas are in there..

There are a few QLD guys on the XR5 & XR4 forum that may be interested in cruises, if you wanted to do some combined cruises & get a few people together when you start out

Basic committee as above, need a constitution (for a bank account), we have Historic Rego (Registrar position), and are affiliated with the ACT Council of Motor Clubs (enables Historic rego arrangements with RTA).

Last year 80 people at the trivia night and around 45 cars.

While we are doing shamless plugs another example is at the SFCC NSW concourse day there was around 80 cars on display, with everything from, mild to wild, drag cars to daily drivers. Here are some pics http://sfcc.mine.nu/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12277

Another big show day in NSW is the RS Owners & Capri Club Concourse day where they aswell attract alot of quality small Fords.

Like Allan said the small ford scene is growing & it would be great to see the same thing happen in Queensland.

P.S. Hopefully I'll be at the big one in october if im free Allan. I'll try & round up some other guys to come down aswell.
