2 days after a quick repaint her indoors HQ went straight to the coal face to help with some free firewood much to her displesure. To be fair the old girl (car, not her) did remarkably well all things considered, the tree had blown over a week or 2 prior and the full trailer was bloody heavy, the old HQ chugged away quite happily thouigh somewhat slow and i had to pull over a couple of times and wait. Was kind of hoping it would break down so i could come to the rescue in the ute Would have made my day.

When I was 14 or 15 and reading street machine I was still deciding which camp to go with I was close to choosing the red camp because of the HQ Monaro....
But it was hard to go past the Phase 3's with their shaker, 351, toploaders and 9" rear ends...so the blue team it was... Sometimes I still look at the HQ and think at would could have been... |

My brothers first car was a HQ Kindswood in the same blue... driven like crazy all over QLD, never missed a beat (apart from hitting a roo and bustin a radiator, kindly replaced by a farmer who had a stuffed HQ on his farm).

Regardless of Ford/Holden, if its old, you cant kill em. No matter what make or model, if its old skool, I love to see it out on the road.

Nice HQ! My brother and I bought one for $100 on gas, had to pay for a few little things to get the RWC, think we spent $12 in parts! And on the road it was!!
I actually thought it was very comfy and roomy to drive with the premier seats it had! It was lowered at the front and had pump up shocks at the back and handled better than a mates VL, and another mates XF, they had no chance keeping up down the great ocean road. Was a 3 speed column auto. And revved out really well suprisingly! I remember taking another freind for a drive to Ballarat (from Geelong) and back for $3(22 litres per hundred average with it floored)! Gas was 12c a litre if I remember correctly! And that was only in (bet you think the 70s!) 1996! My brother crashed it into the back of an XB falcon. Then we sold it for $300 with the nose bent in! |

My brother was going to give me a HT premier, but I bought an XC fairmont GXL for $1000. (ok i kept it for 10 years and sold it for $800)
First on road car was a VC commo-good for learning how to drive/crash in. Then back to the Fords I am pleased about my choices, and hope the OP makes the holden earn its place.

Top car!
Hate to say it, but I'd wager that the HQ will still be chundering along on the road long after the Falcon ute there has gone to the graveyard... |

Yeap I cant stand commodores but I have time for anything pre them, kingswoods, belmonts, at al...they actually had style then. But the Falcons from that era looked much better.
