Default Estimates for sales in April 2013

Yes, it's that time of the month again!

Let the speculation begin...!

My prediction:

Falcon: ~750-800
Territory: ~950
Ranger: ~1300

Lets keep the title for when the actual figures are released as whatever is said here will be repeated in the next few days

I've been told that more C-Class Mercs were sold than the FG...

Of course, that may have been from the bloke at work who heard it from a guy at the urinal that knew the wife's sister's brother's stepcousin of some guy that once spoke to some other guy about frying pans at Myer with some chick that liked playing baccarat.

Not official confirmation yet, but these are terrible numbers for the Falcon.

If there is anything positive in these figures its that the Mazda 3 has been knocked off top spot (even though it was done by Corolla).

Well for its age the Mazda 3 is still doing well and deserves to.
Can't wait for the new model though its relationship with the Focus platform is pretty much non existent with the new one I am keen to see how it performs dynamically against the Focus.

I expected Commodore sales to be down considering the amount of news regarding VF.

Ranger and Focus sales will be interesting.

I think the VF will have a very healthy order bank building up. Really the only Commodore you can get at the moment is SV6 and Z-series which would typically account for only 30-40% of sales.

Falcon is a concern. I think next generation they definately need a wagon.

It does, its called a Territory and it out performs the sportswagon in every measurable way.

That is awful!

I expect there will be another round of mass layoffs come June, July or August.

And still MORE THAN A YEAR until the next-gen Falcon is released!! How can it last until then?! Maybe 300 a month, if that, by then.

Sad.

There is approximately 18 months to go before the new Falcon arrives, a recent Carpoint article has Ford quoting Q4 of 2014!

No, the only time he surfaces on the forum is to carry on about monthly sales or down days/industry problems.

Why does it need a wagon? The only thing the sportwagon did for the commodore is transfer sedan sales and trick some gullable people into thinking it has any rear space.

What is this constant fixation with "the next model"? Are you all never satisfied? Or is this just this week's excuse as to why you do not buy one?

FG2 is GREAT. It has everything you need and more.

Nothing is quicker than a GT-Rspec.
The G series have an excellent luxury interior and have a choice of T4, I6, LPi & T6 so you can save money of fuel, go fast, have cheap rego.....whatever you what.
XR6T is quicker than all the the holdens INCLUDING HSV, FPV are quicker again.
Falcon has a brilliant auto, smooth manual, great handling, modern styling, good pricing and is MADE IN AUSTRALIA.

Buy one now and then maybe buy another one in 3 years.
You are supposed to be Ford supporter, how about doing a bit.

If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem........

Couldn't agree more, unfortunately people prefer to buy ex demo's or second hand because they are cheaper. But if you are going to keep the car for a while why not buy it brand new and support the brand rather than speculate on the demise of Ford Australia and save money.

Because perhaps people prioritise different things?

Talk about OT, can we wait until something official is released?

technology has created very short attention spans. technology is also being updated at a very rapid rate and people come to expect it in everything. phones are obsolete at 6 months old. devices are constantly coming on to the market. its like everyone has ADHD.

car manufacturers release models at various different stages throughout the year, and as soon as a new one hits the market, all other cars in that segment are suddenly 'old'. also, every other car on the market apart from the obvious are global cars, so updates are affordable in a much more regular timeframe. people start to think this is normal and just can't handle going more than a couple of years without some sort of major update.

people need to sit back and realise that products 'leapfrog' each other all the time and all will have their moment in the sun.

for some though, falcon will just never be good enough.

its hard to work out what everyone wants in a car though. is it sales numbers? or is it an actual decent product? because quite often those 2 things are at opposite ends of the spectrum. is something good because its popular? or is something popular because its good?

My manual (which IS NOT smooth and yes, they ARE all like that) FG XR8 is coming up for 5 years old and replacement time. Been a great car and I still love it.

I can't replace it with another XR8 which is ok as I wouldn't mind giving the magic XR6T auto a go BUT, I can only replace it with another FG in SII form which is really a polished up version of what i've got dynamics wise, it still looks 90% the same and it's interior is 95% the same so for me, i'm not getting much change, therefore i'm left in a bit of a quandary and i've decided to keep the XR8 for the time being.

Am I part of the problem because I won't buy an FGII? or is it that Ford don't have a product for me?

VE ran for close to 6 years without even a 'series 2' update. most other model cycles are the same. major interior and exterior changes don't happen that often because they are expensive to implement. its not something unique to ford or falcon.

many of the problems people try to lay at the feet of ford and falcon are actually not unique to the brand, but are suffered by every brand.

Mate I think you are totally missing the point of what the market needs or wants, ultimately that is what constitutes to being GREAT!

I bought a brand new FGII at the end of last year and while my selection was based on very specific enthusiast criteria, I cannot see how that is relevant to 95% of the people on the market.

Would I recommend the Falcon to my parents? NO ... to Girlfriend? NO ... to workmates? NO ... other friends? NO ... You know why? because what they are looking for in a car the Falcon simply does not offer! a Focus for example is far far more suitable to their real and practical needs.

Ford Australia does not build mega expensive enthusiast machines that can survive on a small and exclusive fan base ...
