Default Escort Van - What's it worth

My elderly father has asked me to find out what his 1979 1.6l 4 speed Ford Escort Van would be worth.
He has had it since new. It’s on its second diff, engine, gearbox and distributor. It is still registered and used frequently.
Being a Canberra car it has no rust and has always been garaged.
What do you think its worth and where would be the best place to sell?

Proably your best bet would to be to join a specific small ford forum. They would have a for sale section, here you will find like minded enthusiasts looking for specific modeled small fords. Try these ones:
http://www.smallfordcarclub.com.au/
http://www.classic-ford.org/cfp/default.aspx

Id say given its condition, but being standard the best youd get is 2-2.5K maybe a bit more with the right purchaser.
The window sides may detract from its desirability, but again the right person might be looking for that.
I dont think they sell quickly but you never know

Good luck

JP

its a nice tidy example, but will never be worth a fortune.

At the end of the day its only worth what some ones willing to pay, you could probably expect somewhere between $1500 & $2500

I would agree with the comments & prices above. But yes the right person may pay close to what your dad originally paid new - but you would most likely be continually advertising & waiting for them to come around. Good luck.

Thanks for all the feedback.
My Dad's expectations are higher than what it seems themarket is willing to pay! I think this comes down to having the car for so long and being attached to it.

I agree with the $2k mark.
Thanks again

Vans are rare in good condition. I'd pay upto $5000 for a decent one. ....Pity I'm in Melbourne. I prefer the side windows ones (GL) as the visibility in the full panelled ones (L) are shocking and always have knocks the rear LHS.
I've owned 9 over the last 15 years. Sold my last one a few years ago.
Would love to buy a Mk 1 van with a 2.0lt fitted if anyone has one out there!!!!

Unfortunately nobody wants to spend money on cars anymore! Vans like this one sell around the $2000 mark at the moment, but maybe with a bit of TLC someone will fall in love with it as much as your dad has and might be prepared to pay a bit more. Its amazing how much a difference a clean and tidy up can make on price.

Try the various forums (here and others mentioned above), and contact the Ford clubs directly.
Failing that, get mercenary.....Allclassifieds, Trading Post, eBay, Carsales etc etc

I've used these broad targetting approcahes with success acouple of time over the last 3yrs - one classic + one modern. At the end of the day, it's all about advertising exposure.

And yes, the classic car market is seriously depressed at the moment.
