I'm not sure if this has been posted here before, but it's the most brilliant Ford Australia comeback ever! I saw it posted on FaceBook and it asked the question "Holden vs Ford Commercial wars, who do you think won this battle?"
I wish they did ads like this today! (I know Ford did a similar thing with its FG X at the Ford day, but nothing compares to this!) So what do we think? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW4091G5Bxo

Love it sooo clever and take no rubbish attitude.
While some cars in the first add clearly handle worse, there is no doubt that driver is throwing those cars in far more then the ultra smooth action he uses for the kingswood. Obviously why ford had a crack back. Reminds me of the recent crack ford had at the dodgy dyno tests, asking for a controlled rematch where funnily enough, under controlled and non biased circumstances the results were reversed and the ford was crowned Australia's most powerfull muscle car |

If Brock had of been driving that yellow XC at the end, he would've just gone straight over the top of them. 'oops, sorry, something is wrong with the suspension, she`ll be right'

Ah yes, the 70's.

Put it this way....I bet Holden spends more then 4 times what ford does on advertising it's large car. Yet it sells 4 times the ford. |

So you think Ford just has to advertise the Falcon as much as Holden does with the VF or Toyota with their sedans and it will grow sales enough to keep the factory going?

240K Datsun did well, but not as heavy as the big cars.
I had one of these in the day, used to chase foxes on the farm with it, then drive 200kays home, great car.

On the Shannon's Legends of Motorsport episode featuring Alan Moffat, the ad was brought up and Alan recounted the background to it. He apparently told the advertising manager that he could drive just as quick if not quicker in falcon than Brock and offered to demonstrate. Moffat suggested maybe we could do something a bit more impressive and have a person in place of the last witch's hat. It was noted that Edsel Ford was due soon and maybe he could be the person as Alan was sure with him driving Edsel would be safe. Apparently it took Detroit all of 3 seconds to say are you mad down there and no. Instead it was decided the race drivers would be used. Moffat's only stipulation was that Fred Gibson drive as he wasn't going to have Gossy driving with his back to him.

Makes me sad not being around in the late 60's & the 70's, looks like I missed out on so much action, I never got to see production cars racing (actual homologation)

In the ad you can hear the Holden engine slow down and engine brake.

A couple of very good adds, it is depressing to see some of the adds of today compared to these, walking fingers has to be the lowest point .

Lol, easy to whip you mob into a frenzy.
For starters, the red XC is a pre update 500, note the missing blue oval badge, so it doesn't have radial tuned sports handling suspension. To get it pre update you had to tick the GXL box. The Falcon tested in the Ford ad is an updated 78 model with the standard sports tuned suspension. So the first test is legit, using the base Falcon on offer when HZ was released. Ford revisited the test when the XC had been improved to match the HZ. I wonder if those drivers would have stood in front of the early XC. |
