Default VFACTs August 2015

Not a great month for the blue oval with a fairly dismal 5,285 total sales which was only good enough for 6th spot - a drop of one place.

There were a couple of highlights - Ranger 4x4 outselling the Hilux (yes we know it's end of life) to lead that segment and Mondeo up to 4th place in the medium segment.

Otherwise it was fairly dismal:

Ford EcoSport 296 (+22.0%)
Ford Everest 2
Ford Falcon 502 (-6.4%)
Ford Falcon Ute 227 (-12.3%)
Ford Fiesta 296 (-33.9%)
Ford Focus 207 (-56.8%)
Ford Kuga 527 (-21.3%)
Ford Mondeo 250 (-50.2%)
Ford Ranger 4X2 356 (-11.0%)
Ford Ranger 4X4 1,740 (+7.5%)
Ford Territory 784 (-5.1%)
Ford Transit Custom 98 (+80.0%)
Ford Transit Heavy 69 (+105.8)

The graphical stats have been loaded to the Tech portal.

Cheers
Russ

Last I checked this was a Ford forum so I don't know that we care all that much. If you read the sales stats article most of the figures for competing models are in there.

Commodore had a good month considering series II is about to drop, 2616 units (sedan/ute) for 3rd place overall.

Those Focus figures are gobsmacking, that is the biggest segment in the market. I thought there are over 200 Ford dealers in Australia?

I think Focus has been marginalised by the auto box problems and Fords poor response to it. The car has earned a reputation and in such a highly competitive segment, people don't have to look at it. Ford belatedly fixed the problem in the new model, but the damage is already done and of course existing owners have not had the problem fixed, so they will be telling work colleagues, friends, anyone who will listen.

Ford Aust screwed up basically.

Because it's too big and not a particularly good car. Much like the Falcon really...

Those Focus figures are shocking! I know that a new model is just around the corner, but I'd have expected that the sales should have boosted their numbers somewhat!!!

Didn't think Everest was on sale ??? Ford dealers would go out of business if they just relied on Ford Sales. My local dealer also sells Mitsi, Kia, Isuzu, Ssang Yong.

Marketing and sales register them

If you don't know ( you obviously don't ), these figures are for registrations of new vehicles.

Not sure who does not know what here but I thought VFACTS refer to sales not registrations .

EXPLANATORY NOTES

1 This publication presents monthly statistics for new motor vehicle sales.

2 The statistics are based on the VFACTS series produced by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI). VFACTS reports the numbers of new motor vehicle sales by dealers and direct sales by manufacturers throughout Australia. The ABS has been publishing these statistics since the January 2002 reference month. Prior to this, the ABS published New Motor Vehicle Registrations.

SCOPE AND COVERAGE

3 VFACTS data are based on retail sales of new vehicles by all FCAI members. The data are provided electronically to FCAI on a daily basis. The scope of the collection:

includes:
passenger vehicles
four wheel drive vehicles
vans
trucks
buses
vehicles with diplomatic and consular plates
state/territory and commonwealth owned vehicles
vehicles belonging to the defence forces
excludes:
motorcycles
plant and equipment
unpowered vehicles

All 4x4 Utes are sitting a bit lower than usual - they occasionally sit over 3000 units per model .

There has to be a supply issue with the new Focus. They would register more internally then whats been sold.

I'm sure if Australia starts selling 1 million cars a month then the supply issues won't be so much of an issue.

focus actually loses money for Ford on every one sold here so those low figures are deliberate, and actually good news. I'm more please by the Mondeo numbers as it shows that the supply issues seems to have been fixed.

Is that legit or an assumption. Serious question, if Ford is losing money on a Thai car how can any other manufacturer make money on theirs?

Awhile ago the Aus built cruise was loosing something like 2.5k a car. They said it was basically exactly what it cost them extra to build here instead of overseas. Not sure how that all pand out to now though...

Then why would Ford Australia persist with Focus if it was such a dud financially? More to the point, do the losses extend all the way through the Ford organisation?

price pressure in that segment is so extreme it is possible that nobody is making any money. high sales figures aren't the end of the story especially if they are supported by marketing incentives

Are we sure their not losing money on the base model...while a titanium would bring a few dollars? Seeing as higher spec cars don't cost that much more to build but command a much better sale price.

Focus Tiatnium is $32k+orc. the Tech Pack should be standard on the Titanium....Cruze SRiV is $28k drive away..The Titanium should be about $30k drive away with Tech Pack with negotiations drive away at Cruze price....

Why? Focus Titanium is priced in line with the Golf Highline, Octavia Elegance and the Mazda 3 SP25.

And in any event, if the Focus is losing money, dropping the price is the last thing Ford should do. They should instead make it better and more attractive to buyers, which is what they've done with the LZ.

We all know higher spec models bring more profit. So maybe why they ditched the ambiente, as it was losing money, and kept the profitable ones?
