That is the stupidest thing i have heard. If true where do these people live Himalayan mountains.
10sp will be useless around most Australian roads. My XR8 already does around 1200rpm at 100kmh If they want to do something put in 6sp & 90l fuel tank. Who buy's a V8 for fuel economy. |

It's beyond stupid.
The gearbox will weigh almost as much as the engine. when it breaks, it will cost more than a new car to repair, and driving will just be a constant series of gear changes. Are we sure this will be an actual gearbox? Not a CVT with "10" positions? |

How is doing something stupid "progress"?
Would putting a 200l fuel tank in a Mustang be progress? What about a 10l V16 engine? or 30 inch wheels? Heck, why don't we make it 10m long and include seating for 8. Because according to you adding redundant rubbish just for the sake of a bigger number is "progress." |

Really? Or are you exaggerating for dramatic effect of your story?
I don't know of any xr8's that pull 1200rpm at 100km/h out of the factory. I would suggest maybe 1400-1500 at best. Come to think of it, I don't know any cars with a 6sp auto that would pull 1200rpm at 100km/h. Anyone enlighten me here........? |

10 speed Auto would serve better behind a diesel, where the power band is smaller.
yet they end up in American Muscle cars.

Na, a joey behind the 10 speed, great for multiplying cogs so you can say "I got MOAR!"

That's what happens when your president commits to ridiculous emissions targets. On ya Obama, almost as useless as KRudd & Co.

If the engine had a power band of 1500rpm, then for sure +10 gears will do wonders. But the 5 litre V8 engine has a power band of several thousand rpm say 4000-5000rpm and plenty of TQ too... Not sure what advantage there is with 10 gears mated up with the V8 except for keeping up with the GM's.

Ive driven the JGC SRT8 5 speed back to back with the newer 8 speed 5 speed pins you on the gear change, that feels lost on the 8 speed, though its quicker on paper.

My old man ordered a GT mustang about a month back, wonder if he would get the 10 speed as the standard auto when his is built? As he has to wait 12 months or so.

F Series is the backbone of Ford's development, particularly RWD vehicles so it should come as no surprise whatsoever that a gearbox designed for it would make its way to Mustang. Ford are not going to develop a smaller Mustang only gearbox, with or without other OEM's.

Seeing that news of a 10sp was in development for a few years....not really a surprise about the news.
Guess what other models will this box make it into.

Are they really calling it 8r10 or did you make that up? Based on previous gearboxes it would be along the lines of 10R80 to 10R140
