What's the weirdest engine you've seen that didn't belong in a car ? I remember a while ago seeing an XF with a Perkins diesel four-banger for sale. Would've been slow but interesting eh. |

I actually had one...
A Mk1 Escort fitted with a Toyota 2TG 1600 twin cam, the thing could rev and had a pretty good top speed with the 5 speed. but they were a heavy motor with not a lot of Torque. ended up fitting a 2L Pinto after I snapped its horrid timing chain

Mate reckons he caught a cab in Cuba that was a 57 Chev (or thereabouts) with a 2008 Camry donk.
I've been dreaming of dropping a LS into a Toyota Coaster and turning it into a motor home - haven't yet looked at whether it is possible though. Would be fun giving cars a fair run off the lights...until I pull up and throw out all the broken plates and crockery etc. |

And here's a crazy build from Kombi Club forum, a guy is mid-mounting a Rover V8 and hooking it up to an AWD system... same guy is also building a Rover V8 trike with Alfa Romeo transaxle and Watts link rear end http://forums.kombiclub.com/threads/...ormance.44241/

At the risk of sounding like a huge geek, I love the original TS3 opposed-piston engine in Commers. I would have loved to see it developed more. I know some companies are trying to revive OPOC engines |

They were a great two stroke engine with the same potential as the two stroke Detroits (with a bit of tweaking) This is where the Rootes type blower originated from.

G'day...Ford Australia has already done it in regard to weird engine choices at least ...four times...
1. Cortina with a 4.1 litre six in it....handled like an oil tanker... 2. EA Falcon 3.9 litre single point fuel injection..wasn't that kind of weird ? ..Thank goodness 4.0 L multi point came along real quick... 3. FG 2.0 Ecoboost turbo Falcon...not terrible by any means but not a 'saviour' either as they wanted..Falcon image gained nothing much from that little effort.. 4. Mustang with the kind of waste of time 2.3 L Turbo...Just is weird to contemplate why you'd buy a Stang with a four cylinder engine...and why the big majority will only buy the proper V8 version...A V6 Ecoboost would make a much better choice...Oh wait...The 2018 Mustang won't have any N/A or Turbo V6 either... Cheers Rod.. |

Not saying its not true but the 08 Camry donk sounds unusual even for Cuba.
the reason a lot of their old cars were fitted with different engines was they couldn't get any new cars from the US, they kept them running with parts from Russia who they were still trading with. So a lot of them were fitted with small Russian diesels which they had a good supply of parts for so the Camry donk I guess would have needed to come from Russia, maybe from China? Id love to go there one day, but I its changing quickly I believe.

Seems to be that XR6T engines are ending up in all sorts of weird and wonderful vehicles.
Might be a little unfair to rip a Falcon's heart out, to make something foreign run like it was never intended to. |

They are popping up everywhere now. Many are being used to re-power older Falcons from XK to AU, as they seem to bolt in with minimal fuss. An EA with an FG turbo motor and box would be one sweet weapon or daily, as they are a relatively modern car, much lighter than a BA/FG, comfy inside and not too bad looking when tidied up. Seen one bloke drop a Barra turbo into an early 80s junkbox Cressida. That's one car you wouldnt want to be lined up against at the lights.

There's quite a few Aussie Patrols now running 6.7 litre Duramax turbo diesels too - instant 14 second quarter mile and returns 12 litres per hundred all day. Conversion starts at $40k.

You need to look to Scandinavia and specifically Gatebil
What about a BMW 6 in a Beetle. Or a Viper V10 in a Volvo

Not as weird as some already mentioned but I saw a Toyota Corona engine, not the star fire the earlier model in a Morris Marina. Also a supercharged Toyota V8 in a Patrol.

Seen them with the Toyota 1HD-FTE, and 1VD-FTV. LS anything, Turbo Barras, and plenty of 6.5 chev diesels, not to mentionDuramax, powerstroke, etc.
