Default Vinyl wrapped falcons

Don't know that I would ever do it but it certainly has me curious.

It seems like an amazing way to change the colour and look of a car as compared a re-spray

Anyone out there who has done it ?

Maybe we could have a thread, show us ya vinyl wrap '

I friend of mine is a sign writer who also specialises in vinyl wrapping cars.

I could not believe the result... When a whole car is wrapped, it looks like the car came or was painted in that colour.

As an example he said if you look at the yellow RACV break down vans running around in yellow... Many of them are vinyl wrapped from bumper to bumper.

He said it takes 3 days to do a car, which includes cleaning, surface preparation, etc, and costs on average $7,000 per car.

If anyone has ever had a close look at any of Simon's Transport Volvo's they'd notice the back of the Cab is white whilst the rest of the Truck is Brown.

Seems they vinyl wrap all their Trucks, when it comes to trade in time and they take it off the paintwork is like new with no stone chips..

Didn't (or don't, not sure and don't really care) volvo have an option of vynal wraps from new for a. A designer exterior, or b. Peeling it off for an un faded and potentially immaculate paint job when it comes time to sell?

Here are some pics of my vinyl wrapped bonnet. I designed, printed and installed this myself at work.

Printed ready for install:

My wife hit a roo and it was cheaper for me to wrap the bonnet than get a respray!

Cheers,

I would like to ask what was the cost of the respray quote and how much did the vinyl wrap cost? Thats two questions not just one.

Thanks.

I'm not sure of exactly how much it would cost to re-spray the bonnet but since I did this in-house, I did the design and installation in my own time I only had to pay the cost of materials. The cost for me was about $150 but obviously it would cost more to get it done at a vinyl wrap company.

Cheers,

Smithy

I was curious about vinyl wrapping the front top panels of my trucks the same colour as I'm constantly touching them up from stone chips.
How good are they at colour matching to an existing colour ?? I guess a contracting colour would look Ok otherwise.

You could always wrap in clear, keeping the couloir underneath and adding protection to the surface wrapped.

I did think of the clear but the paint is starting to look patchy from all the touch ups over time.

Smithy, the bonnet looks fantastic.

On the Gold Coast there's a Merc CLA 45 coupe wrapped in a violent metallic blue - you can see it coming from Victoria.

I figure then that a clear wrap would not require a notice with nsw rms.

Not that that is such a big deal, but clear would certainly not involve a colour change ...

Food for thought ...

I beleive they can. I doubt a lot of the boats on fishing shows with sponsors on the hulls are painted, and I watched an American show that wrapped a boat. I'm still happy with the gel coat on my 14 year old rig.

A lot of ski boats have graphics, wrapping seems to be the way to go.

Just thought id add if you do wrap you car in a different colour, you will need to update the cars registration details. as not to attract police attention.

Same applies to painting, I recall reading about a 4WD bush basher being painted in Camo and receiving a hefty fine.

I heard the wraps will fade after only 12 months, particularly the black roof wraps. Any truth to this ?
