Default VFACTS April 2019

https://www.caradvice.com.au/753296/...sales-figures/

Ford finished the month in 4th position -

Ford EcoSport 26
Ford Endura 161
Ford Escape 293
Ford Everest 312
Ford Falcon 0
Ford Fiesta 1
Ford Focus 273
Ford Mondeo 76
Ford Mustang 422
Ford Ranger 4X2 274
Ford Ranger 4X4 2,737
Ford Territory 0
Ford Transit Custom 143
Ford Transit Heavy 85
Ford Total 4,803

Interesting to note that Mitsubishi after having had a stellar March, has fallen away in April. Brought forward sales / demo's?

Good result for Ford. Holden are getting smashed like we all thought they would.

I guess that's the difference between having a good range and riding on the coattails of your best car that doesn't exist anymore

Toyota 15,135 -9.1%
Mazda 7,644 -1.0%
Hyundai 6,469 -9.3%
Ford 4,803 -0.4%
Mitsubishi 4,717 -14.4%
Kia 4,521 0.4%
Volkswagen 3,505 -10.5%
Holden 3,483 -23.8%
Nissan 3,025 -0.1%
Subaru 3,006 -25.2%

HILUX 3621
RANGER 3011

The positives I see above is that from the top 10 ford was 1 of only 3 makes to have a small drop -4% (Nissan & mazda -1% each) while Kia was the only 1to have a + %

Still worries me the Ford banks so heavily on Ranger, Without ranger, Ford sold 1,792 vehicles for April, Just shows how important Ranger is in ford's line up for overall sales & profit, without it, Ford would be out of the top 10. As it stands, there is only 300 sales between 4th & 6th.

technically, Ford is riding on the coattails of 1 vehicle atm, without it we would be in sales oblivion, worse off than Holden's current predicament

The rest of the range is not exactly holding its own.

Makes you wonder if they'll discontinue the rest of the range and just have Ranger, Mustang and Everest and some of the Ford Performance range.

Big difference. Falcon did not come from Thailand, USA or some other place that is not Australia.

Ford is a 1 hit wonder take out the Ranger and they Sold 1792 Cars - Take Colorado out of Holdens figures and they sold 2231...

Both Ford and Holden have good cars in the range but consumers just don't seem to want to know about them... What can be done to get Buyers into other Ford's, who knows...

Agreed, apart from Ranger 4x4 the rest were down between 25 and 50% on last months figures with Focus crashing back to earth now the demo's have been accounted for.

Ford will be a commercial vehicle company before you know it. The market doesn't really want a Ford badged passenger car.....that seems to be more for the Asian and euro marques.

if I remember right, aint this Ford U.S plans to focus on Trucks, SUV & mustang / performance only ? if so maybe that's why there is no real concern with the small numbers for the remainder of the range?

Pretty much.

It's Europe that will be more interesting. Mondeo looks like it's on its last legs with the Euro's taking over in sales. I guess wait and see what happens after the facelift. Ford need interest rates to shoot up so the Euro's are to expensive for leasing.

Don't know about Holden but can only hope that somehow the stigma re focus wont hang about forever & that eventually it builds up to being a strong seller again.
looking on Ford's FB page there is still a lot of anger over the focus issues (more so the lack of assistance) from consumers & almost every time someone from Ford's PR team puts a positive spin on their customer service the focus issues rise up & they have no comeback.. makes them look silly really.

My opinion on Holden is they are paying the price for the Daewoo Garbage they rebadged and tried to pass off as quality products (Non Opel Barina's, Malibu, Captiva, Epic, etc). But anyway..

Having driven the Focus against a few competitors recently I was pleasantly surprised.. Hell, this week I just bloody ordered one...lol.. I think if they can get Private buyers in the door and behind the wheel they will start to sell... Yes, they start at a higher price but a look at whats on the road these days and you see ALOT of the mid-high spec Mazda 3/I30/etc's on the road... The public buyer isn't scared to spend $$$ on small cars..

Ford would probably be broke without Ranger. Who would have thought people like driving commercial trucks as a daily.

Yet they drive it like they’re in a sports car. Ever see a Ranger casually pull away at a set of lights? No, usually they plant it at every opportunity. Have a look at the next Ranger you see on the road.

you must be looking at a lot of ex falcon owners. many of them also drive like the road is some sort of race or contest.

having said that, I don't actually agree with your comments. I see lots of utes around, including Rangers, and they don't drive any different to the rest of the traffic. Falcons and Commodores would still top the charts for 'biggest tool on the road' awards.

Yep, no more large 4 door family sedan from FORD. Buyers wanting that in an Aussie brand have to buy a commodore.

I don’t understand this current Ford V Holden chest thumping. Both brands are now nothing. The glory days are over.
OK, Ford outsold Holden, but take the (imported) Ranger out, and Holdens (imported) sales are better. So what ?
Ohh, but the current Ranger was proudly designed in Australia. So what ?
Aannd, Holden does a lot of development and product testing in Autralia. Again … so what ?
A token effort by both companies so they can state that they still employ Australians, and it hasn’t been 3 years yet since the shutdowns.
My bet is that by 2026, Australian based input will be zero, apart from driving vehicles off a car carrier. We may be able to brag about how an Australian designed the roo bar on the top selling vehicle, the Great Wall ute.

“a lot” is one of those indefinable quantities that could be anywhere between ‘SFA’ and ‘infinity’.
Some say, the Holden Equinox, Arcadia, Trailblazer, Colorado and Opeldore have been intensively tested and improved by Oz engineers at LangLang to meet Australian conditions and expectations. I have read it, and seen it on TV ….. therefore, true.
GM have LHD Cadillacs roaming free around Melbourne for calibration tests, even to the extent of having an honourable mention on this forum.
As the Lion’s Oz production is currently in the ‘SFA’ category, their contributing something slightly more than SFA must be interpreted as “a lot”
As HSV ( whatever those initials stand for today ) re-manufacture more vehicles in Oz than Holden and Ford combined, they almost qualify for the ‘infinity’ category.
I hope that this explanation of advanced mathematics is understandable.

Nice, you are obviously a Maths PHD, keep up your studies you’ll be a Maths Professor soon

The “Lions” OZ production is not SFA, it is Nil.

HSV (not GMH or Holden at all) don’t do much at all, and are no where near 7,000 units a month, so keep up the good work

There is a massive difference between 2000 workers developing a vehicle from the ground up and having it sold around the world in big numbers and say Holden running suspension tweaks on an imported model.

Its a side topic, but employment numbers are no longer relevant as ford are also slowly winding down it's Aussie workforce

https://fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11478380

And once ranger development is moved overseas will matter even less

That would be only true if one thought their past dreams were going to continue unchanged. I know full well an overseas based company looks after it's locals first.

Ram sales !! Among the very few brands to show some growth over April 2018 were Volvo Car (up 20.8%), Skoda (up 38.3%), MG (up 126.7%), Porsche (up 9%), Ram (up more than 800% thanks to the 'new' 1500), Haval (up 263.6%) and Great Wall (up 114.9%). People knock the Captiva but Acadia isnt selling !!! Captiva sales more than Acadia.
