Default The next great fad?

After well over 4 years of being heavily involved in the AU scene I have learned to sit back and enjoy what I see as “the next big thing”.
So what do I mean by that?

Well, over the last few years a pattern of “mods” seem to constantly appear and reappear as the latest and greatest. Some of these up to now have been:

Intakes over and over and over again. Everything from metal “scoops” to channel air into the intake to cutting out air box front panels to running piping through wheel arches to get cold air (and small animals) from the bottom of the front spoiler

Wheels Oh, when 18 inch rims and rubber were the biggest thing since sliced bread. 19” rims were the league of those with insane amounts of money and style (remember 19” rubber used to cost a minimum of $500 a tyre)

Unichip My fault, the chip challenge started something that was around for a while and saw quite a few with unichips… which are now paperweights

AWC When Adam was there the AWC bodykit craze when nuts. AU bonnet Bulges and XR50 bars were selling like hot cakes and popping up all over the place

Cams Oh what a fun time with every man and their dog slapping cams in. Results were varied and interesting to say the least.

Intakes Needed a second mention.. they JUST WONT DIE! Here’s a tip.. regardless of if you cut a hole into the front of a stock airbox, fit a BA airbox or go all out and pay for a custom G&D or Bluepower airbox the overall result on an AU will be minimal at best and, without further mods, basically NIL!

The edit Need I say more? It was the biggest thing since the 2003 “intake” insanity. At least the edit worked though.

Histalls Still with us but not as big there was a time when the histall fad was huge

Diff me Like the histall there was a big run on changing diffs in the AU to something that was a little more “sprightly”. Who did it? Probably most that did the histall after realizing that lots of rpm slip and a tall ratio diff equals crappy performance.

So what’s “hot” now?

Take a look at the amount of “brake upgrade” threads out there :

So what’s next?

It will be the break upgrade, considering the lack of size. And it looks pretty if your got a badass set of wheels.

More importantly whats the next big fad in the car scene overall?

I think your also forgetting the 'power adder' phase. Those question seam to be poping up more and more, and more and more are doing it.
I don't think it will be a quick buzz like the rest, it'll be round for a while though

MANUAL CONVERSIONS!! :P

I would say forced induction is going to make a bit of impact as it becomes cheaper and more accessible. Seems like a few people are going down that road already.

Narrr Casper just like the look of the Bigger Brakes

I think a bit of retro-tec
Same as the END cars are now with putting in AU motors ... I think there will be someone that will bring out a compleat bolt in kit for BA or better style motors.
