Guys ive a 71' Mk1 Escort 2 door im doing.
Complete driveline removed and wanting to replace the front struts however i do have a pair of later model 2lt struts. My question is there any advantages or disadvantages of changing up to a larger 2ltr strut. Obviously callipers are bigger but the car will just be a neat driver...no race car or would i be better just refurbing the existing setup? Possibly been a flogged question here but thanks in advance. Mark.

the 2L would take metric M16 calipers rather than the imperial P16 on the mk1, and you have a much better choice of upgrades for those.
technically, you'd need Engineering, but I doubt anyone would spot it. |

Ok great thanks for that...i fid forget to mention the larger struts are complete with calipers so can i just refurb them and bolt them back in? I understand the steering arm is different which if need to change steering box tie rod ends?.. correct me if im wrong.
I guess my point is that is it it worth my time changing over to the 2ltr strut and am i going to gain much over the standard setup. Either way both require rebuild but i only want to rebuild one setup. Cheers Mark

Can't see much advantage on a stock car or anything up to a twin choke weber and headers.
It might come down to parts availability though, I notice King springs are only doing springs for the two litres types nowadays. I'm sure you could rustle something up for the 1600 struts, double check the sizes if they're ex UK though, they can vary over there.

Ok great thanks for that..i think ill just stick with a full refurb of the original struts and calipers...that way everything bolts straight back up...its only going to be a tidy cruiser and no race car.
