Default New Nissan GTR pics just released!!!!!

Now that I have your attention -

These are pics of the final proto-type by Nissan before the car is produced - and if the Mazda Rx-8 proto-type was anything to go by - this is probably the new godzilla.

EDIT: Additionally, my bad for calling this car the Skyline, the GTR badge has parted ways from the Skyline coupe, instead it's a stand alone Nissan sports car, however it will share many common components with both the V/G35 Skyline and the 350Z

Nissan Unveils the GT-R PROTO

At the 35th Tokyo Motor Show in 2001, Nissan unveiled the GT-R Concept, confirming that the GT-R legend would be continued into the 21st century. Then, at the 37th Tokyo Motor Show in 2003, Nissan announced the next-generation GT-R would be rolled out in 2007. Now with the launch of the production model just two years away, the development of the new GT-R has moved ahead again with the reveal of the GT-R PROTO.

Ultimate driving pleasure
In essence, driving pleasure means that a car responds faithfully to the driver's wishes and performs precisely as expected. Successive generations of the GT-R have consistently pursued this vision of ultimate driving pleasure.

Whether on the road or the racetrack, the GT-R has always represented ultimate performance combined with handling qualities that stay faithful to the driver’s wishes, in all conditions. As a result, the GT-R has built a reputation that extends far beyond just its loyal owner base.

Exterior design: pure performance
The design of the GT-R PROTO expresses pure GT-R heritage, coming from the first model PGC10 (1969) through R34 (1999), in a new and expressive form.

From its original roots as a pure-bred Japanese performance car, the new GT-R will now be a car sold globally, recognizing its ability to compete with the very best in the world. For the first time in its history, the new GT-R will be designed as a specific body style, and not derived from a sedan.

The design language of the GT-R PROTO is expressed by a distinctive body-style that communicates pure performance and functionality. The form of the GT-R PROTO instantly expresses its purpose and potential, but in a way that is unique to this iconic car.

At the front end, the single center air intake is designed to optimize airflow and to strongly link the identity of the GT-R from R34 to GT-R Concept (2001). Front fenders are uniquely designed through intensive analysis of the airflow around the tires, and the air vent behind the front fender also optimizes aerodynamics. The sides of the body are sculptured towards the rear fender, expressing the power and dynamic tension of the car.

The overall shape of the body combines solid and smooth surfaces to achieve the look of a well-trained athlete. The unique c-pillar crease is designed for optimum aerodynamics, reflecting the racing DNA of the GT-R.

The rear of the GT-R PROTO is strong and well defined. The signature four ring-shaped tail lamps provide an immediate visual link to previous GT-R models. Four large-bore exhaust pipes complete the purposeful look, which could only be that of a pure GT-R.

The GT-R PROTO provides for the first time a clear indication of the final design direction for the production model to be launched in 2007, the first all-new GT-R in eight years.

Looks nice Dave. But too much like a 350Z to me. I havent read thru all the shpeel, but wasn't there a rumour that a twin turboed v8 supposed to be released for this car? It's probably crap talk though.

Thats the first thing I thought, before I read any comments, I can see they are fairly different when you look at the comparison pics above, but at first glance looks like a 350z, in any event, either car dont do much for me.

Rumour was twin turbo for Asia, Australia and the UK, V8 for the yanks - aimed at being the performance coupe in Infiniti's lineup.

Now that's nice! Not too sure where any 350z resemblance is, even the headlights are quite a bit different. Love the Ferrari-esque tail lights too!

I'll have one in black thanks, reckon that'd be a tough looking thing.

maybe you need to grab your glasses and have another look, if you put a 350Z next to that photo, you will see what i mean. Pretty much a 350Z with an awesome bodykit.

If it came down to it, i would probably chose one over a ford any day.

those pics are actually quite old, i hate quoting another forum but they were up on melbccr months ago... apparently, at the time i saw the photos they werent going to release it as a skyline as such, as it was basically an upmarket 350z... with the gtr badges of course :

Mite see if i can dig up what was said then on it, in regards to what it was going to be released as when i first saw the pics...

As for as I know, they still won't be calling it a Skyline.

Nissan GT-R will be the car's name, and it would be badged Infiniti GT-R in the USA. No Skyline, it isn't a Skyline. GT-R and V35 Skyline are seperate cars.

This skyline > that skyline

I agree the new skyline looks too much like a 350Z POS instead of what a skyline should look like.

How many prototypes are they going to roll out?
I really liked the 2001 prototype and thought they were going to release something like it. Now theyve come up with this...thing.
I hate the black A-pillar look. Its pox.

Some comparitive shots, and I have chosen the Nismo 350z which has a body kit, as several posts have alluded to this particular combination.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are you are right - the overall look is way different. However look a little more than skin deep and you will see the underlying chassis shape is remarkably similar to the 350Z. The length of the bonnet, the rise of the A pillar, the short stubby 'docked tail' look of the boot. It's all there.

But hell, why wouldn't you use the 350Z chassis - it is a piece of artwork designed from the ground up to be a sports car.

yep i'd have to agree, i had a 350Z for a year or so and the chassis balance was sublime.. soooooooo easy to control when drifting or taking corners at almost any speed, just a touch more or less throttle would increase or decrease the sideways angle.. otherwise it would sit there all friggen day!!

Gimme a 34 anyday...
Like everyone has said too 350zish
The only thing that slightly resembles a GTR on the new concept is the trademark "hot plate" lights...

So for all you "it's a rebadged 350z" type people, can you categorically list the similiarities for the rest of us, with particular attention to detail please? I am curious, to say the least...

Clearly I have been looking at Nissans for too long then, to not see the blindingly obvious similarities that you guys can. I'll put on my Blue Oval Blinkers now - ah that's better. Now I can compare every car on the road to a Ford, preferably a Falcon of some variety, as that is my baseline of existance. Hey look, you are right! I can see it now - they are identical in every respect! Boy don't I feel stupid! :

Well I can safely say the that the R32, R33 and R34 GTR's will remain my favourite of GTR's. That thing is absolutely shocking! What a shame.
