what marketing genius decided motorsport would benefit from guy and this mindless crud? Mind boggles!
They may be trying to emulate Seven's use of Mulray. But at least Mulray had a clue car wise. He'd owned a hot car or two and knew which end the noise came out of! [ok I'll check my opinion now] Last edited by RED_EL_XR8; 05-11-2005 at 01:54 AM. |

I don’t think its any form of emulation or marketing strategy. I reckon he’s a funny bloke with a genuine car interest who is putting his own spin on Australian motoring heritage. His web site doesn’t sell anything or have any sponsors, so whatever he is doing, its not for cash or otherwise. Can't wait to see the whole series on Telly or DVD. Cam |

I just find him unfunny and unknowledgable in the car buff roll he has had thrust upon him. I cringe every time Ten runs one of their Tim Smith puff pieces. |

What makes you think he has had it 'thrust' upon him??? Maybe he could be a genuine enthusiast??? As for your comment about Mulray, he sat in a chopper at Bathurst . . . big effort. Timbo really got his hands dirty on the ground and went amongst the thick of it. Its obvious you don’t like him, so stop throwing rocks. I find you unsupportive of someone who you know nothing about. Timbo knows cars, he is a Chrysler fanatic from way back, I believe he is alot funnier the Mulray without having to lower into gutters.

Mulray was the product of a different era and is well past the stand-up use by date but in his day he had no peer. My dislike any of the TS pieces in motorsport TV need not interfere with what you wish to cackle at! |

Take it on face value. Its your average aussie bloke having a look at cars. I don't expect it to have all the latest and technical data and a bunch of worthless information. I like the look of it. Should be entertaining and worth a few laughs.

Oh BTW GTP, are we talking about the same genius channel 10 who decides to cut the ITV formula 1 commentary for two fumbling knobs (Bill Woods and Neil Crompton) that couldn't string a decent sentence together to save their lives? Or the same channel 10 that employed 126 school kids part time to fill in TV week questionnaires nominating Rove for the Gold Logie? You'd be amazed who I know in TV mate, and unlike a growing majority, I'm one of the few who finds d*ck and f*rt jokes unfunny, thus I do not find Tim Smith or his brand of troglodite humour to be funny. But if this is any consolation to you, compared to Rove (who is a suburban c*nt and his mother rues the day she ever ed him), Tim Smith is a regular Bob Hope.

For all the guys who are having a bash at Tim Smith, I think you’re all right about your criticisms.
I should have booked at The Comedy Lounge last night at Tim’s stand up gig because I couldn’t get a seat so I stood up the back with a few others. It was a packed venue, over 400 people. His jokes must have been really boring, as you guys reckon because everyone couldn’t stop laughing. After the show I asked the question about him using gag writers and he replied "I've never had a writer in my life, so all the DODGEY work is mine". I also asked him a bit about car knowledge and you guys are right about that as well . . . its limited to stuff he has worked on himself . . . he’s only built up about 6 cars from scratch. So yeah, all you guys are right. He’s not that funny, he’s only been on radio for 2 mins, he has fluked a few gigs on TV and he wouldn’t know a thing about cars. Thank you guys for making me realise, now I've seen my error in my ways. Thank you seriously. |

I've always found Tim Smith to be funny. And although I haven't heard anything about this show, I'm interested to find out what the story is. I'll wait until I've seen it before I judge it.

Yeah he took the time to have a beer with the crowd after the show, it was hard to get a word in with some many people. . . . . but I managed to push my way to the front, somehow. It will be interesting how the rest of the tv show thingy turns out. cam |

Ol Timbo aint bad! He's one of the more laid back characters around, and doesnt try to overdo routines for laughs like other comedians

Dont worry Cam, I find Timbo to be a great laugh. I'd happily go see him live, was peeved when he gave up the "Cage" and look forward to "dead set Legends" on Sat morning.
Of couse I must be weird cause I find some of the "classic comedy" shows like Seinfeild and similar to be a boring load of crap.

I agree Casper... as I said those who try too hard for a laugh, most of those seem to be the americans
And with rating finishing up for the year in the next few weeks our TV sets will be full of them... |

Well done to Timbo, the more car shows the better it is,and even though he might show more allegiance towards Holden's at least he's fair minded about it,he had a great interview with Craig Lowndes a couple weeks ago,and as far as humour i think he is quite clever and funny.
Cheers John

im all for comedy, but why does a car show have to be based around comedy? i know stuff all about cars. ill probably watch this one to see what it covers, but i'd expect a car show to spend more time on cars than comedy.
