Thumbs up Need advice from all v8 or turbo

hEY,
ive been weighing up my options for a while now and i need some tips....
I currently drive and own a 1999 xh s2 falcon s pack auto ute with the optional windsor 302 v8.
Im really interested in starting more performance mods to it because it really is getting to the point where she needs some more ponies..................... atm with kn filter and duel exhaust its prob still close to the factory stated 165kw/ at the fly im guessing.
My other option would be to get a loan and buy a xr6 turbo ute bf 6speed just dunno if i really wanna owe a heap of cash bein 22 and all then theres insaurance etc....

So any input from you guys would be tops about who is good working the old 302.....sponsors??? :alien2: where to start what id get outta it etc...
Cheers.

hi 9lives
the bf turbo ute with auto 6 speed if very impressive. my brother just got one.you will have to do a bit for the windsor to keep up with it,but i understand a new car is a big comitment at any age,so the choice is yours. But trust me when i say the bf is a good thing.
By the way i grew up in cronulla, love the area.

Test drive both and then decide. For me turbo uses less fuel, cost less to insure and is quicker around town!!

If your are happy witht the XH then modify it.

The mod's are almost endless. Depending on the power you want or the cash you have to spend.

Cam, heads, injectors, MAF combo works.

The heads are cracker's, i wouldn't touch them unless your going to go for a full rebuild first. If you get a Ba there's a few places around that can strengthen the auto, C&V performance are 1. As for the BF auto i honestly couldn't tell you, given time im sure people will find the need and a way to upgrade them.

And if you get bored there's plenty of bolt on's available that'll push the ute into the 12 sec zone, failing that slap on a blower nothing beats the whine of a blower on an angry bent 8.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but the XR6T would be cheaper to buy, and cheaper to mod to get into the 12sec bracket wouln't it? The only things you get with the 8 that makes it 'better' would be the exhaust note and the bulge.

I think you'd get into a blown Ba xr8 ute at the same price if not cheaper than a Bf xr6T.

I have just gone through the same deal a few weeks ago. I traded my XG XR6 Ute in on a new BA XR6T2. I test drove the XR8, XR6 both in manual and auto forms and found the 6 speed manual was better. Also as others have stated, the turbo is quicker and cheaper to run and insure.
I have also driven a Dick Johnson modified XR8 auto and it was a dog.

The turbo might feel quicker but it's not. Stock vs stock the xr8 will win hands down everytime with a decent driver.

The bug will bite hard and before you know it you'll be driven some 400hp monster on the street... Just decide which one you'd rather modify a v8 or turbo! comes down to personal choice and taste

heheh.
girly 6.. funny stuff.

Any way... Consider how much of a pig your old ute will be to drive when modified..

Consider for minimal $$ you can have an XR6T ute running 12's.

Injectors, edit and away you go.

The V8 sounds good, but it's personal and always will be. I've got mates who love there 350 powered Munroe's, but they all shake there heads at my ute in disbelief..
The V8 handles differently to the 8, it's nose heavy.. The 6 is a much sweeter engine, and very refined. My misses drives my ute, all 400+KW of it, and it's like a stocker. Some ppl don't like the power delivery of the turbo, others like me love it..

Drive them, then see what you think. I did.

The only reason that you call them girly T6s is that you are always looking at their bums.....

I can assure you my trip meter reads lower than the stock quoted fuel usage, and I don't drive like a granny.

And yeah, I was asking what times you were hoping for.. I thought tractiion might be more of an issue with the forced 8 tho with that much grunt??

If i can nail a 2.oosec 6oft i'll be happy other than that i'll wait till i hit the stip before i start saying times. Traction will be an issue on street rubber, it's all in the tuning so we'll see how it fares.
