I'm in the process of purchasing some front struts for my wife's AU1, and I'm trying to find out wether there was a slight difference with the struts between AU1 and AU2/3? I plan on fitting AU3 XR springs at the same time.
Monroe catalogue listed part number 35-0406 for the tickford/lowered AU1. Monroe catalogue listed part number 35-0447 for the tickford/lowered AU2/3. Yet Koni list the same part number for AU1-3's... I was planning on going for the Monroes(the ones with the reflex technology), as that is what is on the rear. So I don't know wether to get the struts to suit the car or the springs... Any ideas???

Going by my Ford parts catalogue the struts are different. Koni dont list a difference, yet Pedders, Monroe, and ??Ultima?? all did. After 2/2000 all AU share the same lower suspension arm as the BA's. All the genuine struts changed at 2/2000 also.
Hope that answers your question.

No probs, I've got a spare AU S1 Monroe GT gas kicking around and I was hoping it would have fitted my ute but sadly no :(

The only difference is that the later models had a clip thingy (technical term) for the brake lines on the strut, where the earlier models the clip thingy is built into the upright (or not at all, can't quite remember). Koni have the same part number as their struts all come with the clip thingy.
I swapped shocks and springs from my AU1 XR6 VCT with Muzza's AU2 XR8, just before I got rid of the XR6. There were no problems with fronts or rears at all (both IRS, of course).

All done, the parts supplier gave me AU1 monroe reflex shocks for a very, very good price. :
I made the most of the easter break and chucked them in the car with the AU3 XR springs, and finished off with a wheel alignment this morning. Very happy with the result. Car now sits level, and handles like a rear wheel drive should! I also took the opportunity to bleed the brakes, and now the brakes are nice and firm. Should have done it all sooner!

Good to hear. You'll have to post a picture up to show us all.
