Default BFII to feature improved fuel economy?

Link to GoAuto article

It can't come soon enough. I hope the touted fuel consumption improvements are achievable. It is likely that the VE model with more power and more weight to move will use more fuel than the VZ model. This should allow Ford to have the advantage in these very fuel conscious times.

i got 11.5L to the 100 kays out of my AU I6 last tank. and what did the real figures say... 13 litres/100 or something? i dunno.

reading fuel economy numbers is all well and good. but its all gauged on your right foot. so saying that the new falcon has fuel economy of ~12L/100km is a crock. because really, everyone drives differently.

That with e-gas would make a great family car.

They need to offer the 2.7l V6 TD and that cool new 3.6L V8 TD as options. Imagine a 200kw 640nm Flacon that uses 7L/100km of Diesel. It woul dprobably cost a bomb though!

I would not be suprised if we see the 6 Auto across most of the range, including it as an option on XT.

Reckon well see those promised monotube shocks?

Most likely to be 6 speeder across the board (i think BTR is finished anyway), extra standard features and maybe a few more E-gas models and the diesel Terry (ok the last one probably wont happen).

Peronslly im hanging out for new e-gas model with direct injection and mono-tube shocks.

What is direct Injection i have heard it is more economical? Can it be for petrol engines as well? If it is more economical why are we still waiting?

Well if they can use less fuel it might help sales pick up over the others.

Woops should have worded it better, i meant sequential vapor injection for LPG. Gasoline Direct Injection is what your thinking of, what it does i dont know, but they use on a lot of JDM stuff.

Ford will need to do something to capture the market as Petrol prices keep rising. Also with the VE coming out I reckon there will be some great surprises with the BFII. Ford have learnt (especially with the AU trouble) what the market wants and I'm sure the BFII will be a car that will impress customers.

What I'd like to see is a diesel engine offered (the 2.7L V6 would be perfect, about 150kW and 440Nm) and the 6 speed standard throughout the range.

It would be really good as well if Ford put heaps of effort into making the cars lighter (perhaps by using some aluminium in their construction, even if it means adding a couple of thousand to the price).

Ford learnt their lesson from when the ELII model was slaughtered by the VT Commodore from Sep 1997 to Aug 1998.

What i meant to say is that everyone is talking alloy block, why not go the graphite composite. Lighter/stronger than alloy, better NVH insulation but i guess the $$$ prob alot more.

I didnt notice how heavy the DOHC 4V layout is. The 2.7L TD V6 is, even tho consisting of a CGI block, still heavier than the LS1/2. Even if our I6 and BOSS engines consist of a CGI block, i doubt it'll be comparable in weight with the LS engines, tho, it'll put less weight up front, so i guess better than nothin
