Default New camry sportivo at MM

http://editorial.carsales.com.au/mel...256FB8007B7839

Toyota seems to think that with a 0-100km/h time of 7.2 it has performance levels of a HSV or FPV.

"The question to ask now is: Is it any good? Mr Allen said the development car outperformed several benchmark cars including HSV and FPV cars and Subaru’s Liberty GT.

"In terms of overall refinement, it’s a more refined package and in handling and feel it’s a point-to-point car and probably just as quick," he said of its performance against the local muscle cars." :

Oh god, Here we go with camry now. Just like what mitsu tried with the magna. They should wipe the powder from under their nostrils and stay in their own goddamn market. Selling bargain box lukewarm sedans to blue haired brylcreemed old dears.

doesn't look too bad at all but the power could be better. i wouldn't say it is any competitor to Ford or Holden. Sure it has the refinement but that's not what people want. They want the power, the speed and a new name ;)
I have heard some rumours that next years camry will have a 200kw V6 engine. Not sure if that is standard or for the sportivo.

Good to see them trying. The 3.5L Magnas are pretty zippy machines, so in the V6/I6 market this Sportivo might be reasonably quick.

I find it funny that it cost them $600,000 to build that. There is a guy that converted his celica to RWD and put a twin turbo 1uzfe in it. Its fully road registed and emissions legal and it didn't cost him $600,000.

In the end, its still a front wheel drive sack-a.
Doesn't look to bad but sits way to high.

3.0-litre V6 engine, which with 0.5bar of boost lifts maximum output to 185kW (up 40kW) at 6000rpm and 320Nm (up 36Nm) at 4000rpm.

LOL x 1000

Toyota what have you done, now that they are bashing STI, FPV and HSV. some people will think they own a sports car.

I doubt most people would associate "Camry" with "performance", and for good reason...

This guy at Toyota is clearly in the wrong profession - he really should be a politician. He is putting on a show of shite of admirable proportions!

I am sure the car is probably the best Camry that has been made, but for him to claim superiority over the other cars mentioned is, plainly speaking, insulting the intellect. I intend to find a contact for him and follow up on his quotes.

The front spoiler looks like it was copied off the HSV avalanche. 7 seconds 0-100 was the norm for aussie sports sedans about 8 years ago, Toyota need to get with the times. Low 6's are the minimum these days to be considered a competitor, into the 5's for the real performance sedans. Try again.

7.2 seconds to 100 kph, geeez the Krauts at the Porsche stand must be shaking in their boots. For all those who don’t mind this car may I remind you that it’s STILL A ****ING CAMRY.
That’s right , the same cars that change lanes and kill innocent motorcycle riders, the same cars that pull in front of loaded B-Doubles at intersections and lock their brakes up for yellow lights, the same geriatric boneheads that drive down the freeway at 85 kph and refuse to keep left, the same geriatric cardigan wearing numpties that can’t even hold onto their bloody shopping trolleys in the Safeway car park and let them run into the door of your two and a half week old Fairlane. If I had my way I’d have the bloody things banned and have their drivers sent to the Siberian Gulags.
:

What amuses me is that some Toyota salesman out there will actually convince some of these gullible buyers that they are actually in the same league as FPV and HSV.

Cheers, Danny

Great, now I have to watch out for cardigan draped grandpa to line me up at the lights. I think I saw one of these out on the road the other day, similar shape but it's gone for the ricey lights look. Doesn't look too bad but the overall shape looks like it's an overweight version of what the real car should look like (hard to describe)
