I think it's pretty impressive 220kw 362Nm runs 10L/100 They will need it if fuel stays high.

Mitsubishi I think had it in Diamantes since the late 90's. VAG was experimenting with it for a long time too.
Well obviously Holden is going that way, but I think Ford will too, offering direct injection on a premium line of inline 6 engines. Ghia, XR etc. You would also hope that Ford offers injected LPG coupled with the 6 speed. With Fords application I belive compression will rise again to ~11 up from 10.3, and this higher compression ratio will be offered on the Direct injection and on the LPG vechicals. I would expect it to appear around 2008/9 2nd series/First major revision of Orion. Possibly combined with a revision to the block with CGI used to make it ~20% lighter, more compact. If petrol prices soar I would imagine they have a smaller capacity 3.0-3.5L six and all alloy 4.6L V8 (also with direct injection?) to introduce into the lineup 2009-2010. The 3.0 would be a reduction in stroke to the 4.0, with the engine being smaller (sitting a great deal lower in the engine bay also helping pedestrian safety) and lighter and more economical, avalible in petrol and LPG injected versions. Given the demand for a diesel territory (here, in NZ, in SA and in other possible export markets) that will eventually happen too. Holden has obvious options of 3.2/2.8L V6, LPG, direct injection, diesel as well. Toyota is going 4 cyl for the camry and efficent 6 for the avalon II. Misubishi is going optional 4 for the 380 (240?). Shows how concerned Australian manufacturers are about fuel prices.Perhaps we should all be a lot more concerned. |
