Default buying an AU

i got a friend who had his toyota hilux surf written off in a 4 car pile up
hes getting a few grand and saving a few so all up about 8k not more

ive told him dont buy an AU1, or an EA/EB/ED no offense but they got absolute crap resale and everything else good car but not to throw money everywhere... also i dont no much about the EF/EL but he dont like their interior -fusy one

so it leaves the AU1 (if he must) AUII/AUIII or BA/BF (dreaming for 8k)

so if anyone can help me out whats the better car advantages and disadvantages and remember it cant go for more than 8k
if you have one for sale u must make it speed limited to 100k anything with power and he'll test it trust me i sometimes think the pile up was his fault

thanks
richie

For 8k, he should get a series 2. I saw an BA XT today on car sales for $11,500. Au's would be less than that

AU2 over AU1.

Better brakes, better interior, better suspension, better looks. That's the basics.

Man, id look at a Windsor power EF/EL (Any spec- You can get a good one for under 8k no trouble)- He might like the interior in the upper specs. Nice E-Series looks minus the Headgasket troubles. Of course an AU2 is a good choice to, but an AU2 Futura will push him over budget

He's sort off limitted with price but I'd say look for an AU II or save a little more.

You should be able to get a 2000 model AU2 up to Fairmont spec for that money - would need to be a high kms car though.

Try pickles auctions, or grays auctions etc. Even some of the motor traders on ebay do wholesale stuff too.

I rekon the EF/EL interior is way better then the EA-ED & AU interior..
If his only 17 I'd be looking at a Fairmont EF-AU.. Insurance would be too much on an XR..
