Default Big Kev Excited over a new number plate

Finally ordered a new number plate for the ute! Bout time, after discovering what I wanted was going to be $430 a year I decided I just couldnt justify it so have been wracking my brains for something that fits into standard NSW plate format so it would only cost me the $130 a year.

Then the drama of going through stacks of ideas to find out they were already taken.

Today I finally ordered one I am quite happy with XRY00T (XR Ute)

Dam NSW and their cost per year! Had my heart sent on something else, but no way did I want to fork out that much per year for the privledge (actually guess my heart wasnt set on it after all then)

Can probably always sell it down the track if I decide to go ahead and get the other one too I guess.

Mine are $400 a year. I love my plates, but I admit to looking at my rego renewal every year and asking what posessed me to get them.

I am so glad that Qld is like that too... :

And the great thing about Qld at the moment is that you can actually layby plates you want..

I am just about to order another set of plates that I desperately wanted in the first place, before the set that I got (cos that's all I could afford at the time - they were almost $500)

Well done on your plates though and maybe NSW will eventually be like Qld with the one off fee... I like the sound of your plates though.. :eclipsee_

Same here in Vic, a once only fee. Once you have the plates, they belong to you.

SA have varying levels of personalised plates. Personalised plates have any combination of 6 letters or numbers with at least one letter or number for a one off fee. Custom plates can be anything up to 6 characters for an annual fee with 7 characters charging higher again.

We also have abandoned licence plates from the R and S series which are like Clayton's personalised plates.

NSW used to be a once of fee for personalised plates but the government decided that they could make some money by charging an annual fee for them.Rip off b*stards.
Lush you are very lucky to get that plate as it must have only just become available again as I wanted that for my car but it was already taken and that was only 6 weeks ago.

Hell! Really? I did think it was a fluke no one had it yet! Better go buy me a lottery ticket while the lucks up then! :

I did it over the net, got the receipt to say its on order and should arrive in two weeks, so I hope they dont ring now and say sorry, our mistake its actually gone!

If I get bored of it and decide to go to the $400 odd one I wanted I'll let you know then.

I paid $400 a year for my plates on my Territory.
But couldn't be bothered paying that for the ute .. so I got the $130 a year "white-on-green" EGA 54D plates.

number plates are expensive. I had my heard set on a set of EURO plates but $695 for "chose the combo" ones.

even $395 for a combo i dont even like is EXTREME

Boy im glad i live in VIC and plates are a one of cost...... that seems rediculious you ahve to pay for your custom plates every year in NSW.

Also has anyone noticed VicRoads charge $90 or something to change plates between vehicles once already been used on a car. I cant justify it on this vehicle..... its too much, would rather order new ones.

Once the other states figure out how much can be made out of charging a yearly fee they will be on the bandwagon too.

Geez, do you have to say it quite so loudly :

I would not be impressed to be paying for a plate yearly....
Especially with Rego being dear enough(which apparently goes towards our roads :monkes: )

plates are a complete rip off here in canberra. Unless you just get your standard ones and chande the colour then they are not so bad.

Not sure what they cost here in Tassie - All I could find on the net is that there is an application fee and a yearly fee to keep them. No mention on the site about how much exactly.

I also have "GTYOOT" which is on my car now.
And i have this one put aside for safe keeping.

BTW, It costs nothing to have these plates put aside, only a one off purchase price of about $500.
I can call Vic Roads and get them transfered over the phone.

When I got the plates, they went under my dad's name, on my old car, as I knew I was going to get the BA.

When I got it, and wanted to swap the plates over, it took the RTA 9 days to figure out how to do it, as the computer system wouldn't let them do it.

I wanted the custom plates from "dad's car" ---> my car, in my name
(transfer between family members is free in NSW)
The standard issue plates from my car ---> "dad's car".
A straight swap between cars, and it was too hard.
