Default The time has come. Camming it up... VCT Style

The time has come. Tax return is coming through, im moving to QLD for good, and i want to cam up my ghia VCT. Question is who makes reliable, solid VCT cams?

Will be getting the edit after the cam, so the gains will be pretty damned good whatever the cam

Im sure im not the only one looking at camming the VCT. So time to toss about an idea or 2!!!

I don't think there is much to be gained from a cam that will support the advance and retard on inlet and exhaust like the SOHC VCT in the AU.

I reckon you look at disabling the VCT and putting in a dev5 or a 1521a!!

That should work. if the head is up to it and you get an edit.

With an edit the std cam is good for 135-145rwkw anyway! with a non vct cam 155-165rwkw is possible.

sooo many people have said that in past discussions, but i want to insist on utilizing the features that i have, and as such, dont want to disregard the VCT so easily.

i think, if 155kw is possible for a big cam no vct, surely a few kw more would be possible with vct. Its just a matter of finding someone who is willing to give it a go

The SOHC VCT engine is a great step forward in Aussie sixes but SOHC VCT has serious limitations as you must advance or reatard bothe inlet and exhaust timing simultaneously. This is not what you really want to do for max power but you can use it as ford did to have a mild cam that retains some mid range. As you go for larger duration and by default overlap the SOHC VCT has big limitations. I think roughly 140rwkw plus or minus say five or so for dyno and day differences is all the SOHC VCT engine has got.

Yes spot on. 168kw for the Ghia 172kw for the XR6VCT.

Real world at the rear wheels that would on AVERAGE net you at the back wheels about 118rwkw for an auto or Ghia and 125rwkw for a VCT.

That is rule of thumb for a flacon 50kw lost from flywheel claimed output to rear wheel dyno output.
