Thumbs down Well the time has come....

After buying my BA XR8 Ute about 2 or 3 years ago, it looks like its time to move on. I love the car but its costing me over $700 a month in repayments alone to sit in my garage with some sheets over it 99% of the time.

My question is, What am I going to get for a trade in on it? I'm looking at getting a new small cheap car like a Kia or something so there's not going to be much incentive for the dealer to give me a great price? Redbook says 16 - $18,000 which is a joke as they are selling in dealers and privately for 25 - $30,000.

Im going to get some trade in prices tomorrow but after just looking at redbook, im wondering whether to bother.

Can someone give my some suggestions what to do? I've been down the path of trying to sell privately before and it was a pain, but if its going to save me 5 - 8 thousand theres no choice. Anyone wanna talk me outta it? The main reason im selling is for money reasons. With interest rates going up and up and other financial commitments, it's hard to justify 200 a week on a car hardly used. I already own a new Mazda 3 and a Suzuki GS500 motocycle which I ride to work and everywhere else.

I'm going to put an ad in the for sale section of these forums and see if anyone is interested.

Cheers . . .
Damien

i would be trying to sell it private.
put adds in the local paper, trading post , on the net sites.

you can do a lot of advertising for a fraction of the price difference between trading in and selling private.

i sold my XF ute 4 years ago private for $5500 (addvertised at $6000) trade in would have got about a $1000.

sold dads transit van camper through Ebay last year. nobody placed bids but 4 different people from around the country emailed me keen to buy. ended up going to the guy that could get there first .

Mid $20's you'll be looking at private, maybe 26.

Throw it on carsales I have found that to have the most inquiries in the past

I tried selling my immaculate XR8 12-18 months ago with stuff all kays and stacks of factory warranty left for $28K. I got one half interested call in three months.

I ended up hanging onto the car. Its now worth stuff all so when it comes time for a new toy the XR8 will be going under tarps in the shed. If your going to sell it sell it now. When Orion is released resale is only going to get worse.

If it's sitting in the garage hardly used whats the point of trading it in on another car to sit in the garage and not be used? I don't see the logic.

Personally, I'd sell it privately.

I agree, but try telling the wife that.
it would get used more as a run around car car though, and with us both working full time shift work, its handy to have 2 cars.

if you can afford to, it is better to hang onto it. You really take a bath with depreciation in the first few years. You might end up with lower repayments but overall you are losing out financially.

Refinance what ever you owe on it now over 4 years, that way it will cost you less per month and you can leave it sit there...

You'll kick yourself once you get rid of it, as for using it as a run around why dont you? That way you can enjoy it and keep it at the same time..

Well, its too late!
got 23,000 + (700 for rego and greenslip which was overdue) trade in, which I thought wasn't too bad.

As for what I traded it in for,
a MY08 Impreza GX manual in black.
I couldn't help myself, and the wife wasn't no help either egging me on.

The more we thought about it, with the possibility of a family on the way, and the new falcon, now is the time to sell it if we want to get anything for it at all.
While it had nothing over the XR8 power wise, it was great to drive, and nice on the eye, inside and out.

now I wait for the flaming......

Change over was about 10k.
110kw and 196nm
hard to hold those figures against my 260kw and 500nm of the XR8

Ah you made a good choice, five star safety rating, four star pedestrian safety, good economy, awd, the Impreza is a great car and you got a great trade in valuation, you should be happy with how it went, could have been much worse for you. Hope the Impreza is good to you, they're a great car.

Yeah, I didnt feel too ripped off making this car purchase, the only problem was I had only had the XR8 for 2 years so I still had a fair chunk of money still owing on it. Nevermind. This car will be a keeper (until the new falcon comes out hahahaha)
