Default Now this would get me into an RX7.

Now I've always loved the look of the RX7 (FC and FD) but wouldn't ever own one because I'm not a fan of rotaries (personal preference).

But check this bad-boy out; FD (series VI) RX7 with a LS1! It sounds tough as and has the sexy body to boot!

http://videos.streetfire.net/hottest...1c00c93d7a.htm

Now find me a rotary that sounds 1/2 as tough!!!!

Oh, and a nice twin-turbo Chevelle:

I agree, awesome looking cars but wouldn't want a rotary. Would be interesting to see how it handles with the 8 in it???

Amazingly it comes out pretty close - the Chev gearbox weighs a bit but otherwise....

Engine alone the rotar would be alot lighter but with the turbos and all plumbing for them it adds alot of weight

Ive wanted to do one of these conversions since I was about 16. Kinda hard to do at 16, especially cos that model RX-7 cost a bloody fortune!

The balance comes out roughly the same as with the rotor in it and barely affects the handling. Although it would probably be easier to flick the tail out lol.

God that sound. Gotta say those LS1's have an awesome sound.

Mate, I wouldn't say no! I can appreciate decent cars from any manufacturer - I just get funny feelings when I hear a nice 8 and feel the instant torque.

A bit off-topic, but have you ever heard a Saleen S7 V8 Twin Turbo? That's what a supercar should sound like. Lumpy and old-school in a supercar chassis :sm_drool:

< 10 seconds is seriously quick in any car. Do you ever take it around the track? :P

never actually taken it around a circuit track as i have direct feed fuel lines from the fuel cell in the nose of the car and i dont run surge tanks. if i turn left fast it dies.

its street registed, fully insured and fully engineered and yeah i do bring it out on occasions but not often as i need to take 2 x 20 ltr fuel drums with me plus my 15 ltr fuel cell.......... i dont get far but ill give it a go

The LS1 into the later model RX7s, ie; FC/FD is a pretty common thing in the states, i would love to do it here in aus, but would hate to try and get the thing registered here in SA. The capacity has blown out from 1.3litres to 5.7/6.0, the registrar would have a field day with you. I can dream though, nice silver series 5, no kit, stock body, 6.0 litre, monster brakes, sounds like fun to me

Race only FD RX7s are pretty cheap.

Agreed that car sounds tough, but so is a peripheral port 13B.

They actually compared it in a magazine and it came out 2nd best against a similarly modified RX7 with a 13B although he had some average tyres on apparently.

Either way, big respect, great project.

Are you kiddin..if you get a RX7, keep the 13B...or go the 20B (correct?) Triple Rotor with a turbo from the cosmos, work it and you would kill almost any V8 out there
Keep an LS1 or a Clevo for its what its originally intended to be put in...

IMHO

i would have to agree a 100% went in a extended port 13b rx3 years ago no other modifications except extended port and for what was done to it it went damn well they are a great lil motor imo. (if you warm them up first)just have to have a look at a fast fours jamboree dvd 20b turbo rx7s doing 7.8 quater times dont think a ls1 would be doing that anytime soon

Put the 20b in a VT-VZ Commodore and see it try to run 7.8s

Id love a Worked 20b series 5, sitting right next to the worked gen 3 series 5. The 20bs are awesome engines when done and treated properly, and the fact that they can drop a rotor and still make some huge power figures is a testament to their design, but they are still a rotor, and if not dont properly they sound horrible and dont go as hard as they should. Im always tempted to buy rotors, but if the previous owne hasnt treated them right, your up **** creek without a paddle ready to empty your bank account for rebuilds and the like
