Default Queensland Police Get Typhoons For Christmas...

If that doesn't work, 10 new bright red Ford Typhoon patrol cars have replaced the previous fleet so motorists receive a visual reminder while out on the highway.

Still won't stop those who don't want to stop. : I have no idea why the police force of any state waste money on anything other than a XR8 or SS.

Very surprised to see this actually, I bet there are going to be a lot of annoyed F6 owners.

Yeah isn't it 140km/h? Like you said an XT would do that. Hell a Charade would do that!

I am not annoyed it’s a complement, It’s a testament to how good the F6 is.
If I was cop I would love to be driving one of these.
Buy my own edit box and flash a tune it in and out after each shift...lol..
Now that would be wicked fun.

personally i dont have an issue with it and if i was an f6 owner i wouldnt either, the only reason i said what i did, i remember seeing a thread earlier about this when it was still a rumour, and a couple of owners were saying along the lines that it "cheapened" their cars.

not really something i would care about myself though.

I saw them cruising arround today on my way to work...it was almost enough for me to join the force.

its not just about top end speed, its handleing as well and not to mention when there sitting in the median strip of a 110km zone (speed trapping) Id want something that can get out of the hole very quickly to reduce risk of being hit.

the day I see a EVO9 as a cop car Ill sign up on the spot.

Nothing the current fleet offers would come close in comparison so I know what you mean :

Those things are ******* fast and they are the only thing that has chopped me hard besides a modded STi.

Yeah but other than how nice they are to drive what good are they? After all a pursuit is called off at a certain speed which a base car could do.

What are they worth $60-70k when a $30-40k car could do the same.

LOL...there are certain criteria that they need to meet, ill give them that.

But a XT is no slouch, maybe not in outright performance terms but it most definitely does the job.

i think the cut off is at 160 up here but thats only though the cities as well i think and that is only because it is to unsafe for someone without driver training to drive that fast the poilce have been trained and if needed for antother emergency could well and truly go speeds excess of that to get to the emergeny so a standard car would not cut it. thats just my thought and i think its good that they have them they look great

Why dont you ask anyone who buys any XR or FPV. My Falcon will go just as fast (legally) as an FPV but it cost half as much and has a ride that is far smoother.

Lol waiting for the flames to start flying

And when your resale goes through the floor because they are being sold at govt auctions for $buggerall are you still going to be ok Mark?
Remember even though these will be povvo packs as far as the rest of the world is concerned all typhoons are the same and this is going to hurt.
Luckily all the police ones up here are red and I have never actually seen a red typhoon.

How many did they actually buy though? It couldn't be enough to affect resale surely!

*** Edit they bought 10, still not that many***

Whatever the car is worth when I am finished with it, that’s what its worth.
It’s not something we can control.
I purchased this car for enjoyment; if I was to be worried about re-sale I would have been better off buying a Toyota Corolla. :

One mans sadness is anothers joy, I cant wait to see the price they fetch at auction - but then I have nothing to miss out on from some bargain basement sale prices, maybe even something to gain!

Well the whole BT1 thing seemed to work well for Holden, although I guess thats not quite the same league. :

All these promo cars are a huge waste of money IMO. How does it possibly make a difference?

dont *****!!!

cheep typhoons when they come out of service

it may not be about "the top speed"
but getting there matters.... the quicker they can catch up... the quicker they can catch you.... lets hope they use 98 octane...

i had a go at a guy at the servo in wollengong for putting ethanole 91ron unleaded in his few week old f6 tornado ute :(

Wouldn't they get them at a nice discount? Might even make a profit when the sell them off.

XR8 should be okay, they are not much more than an XT V8 these days, and they'd get them at special prices surely?

Yes government cars are purchased at a special rate and are free of taxes but it doesn't warrant outlaying the extra money for an F6 when an XT with firmed suspension would do the job.

It's a similar case with mobile speed cameras. Why do they use expensive Landcruisers when a second hand Lada could do the same job.

according to NSW police, XR8's handle the worst out of SS's and XR6T's. AND they have been stalling with all the added police crap putting a strain on the battery or some crap. apparently.

What are the majority of cars used by people when running from the police anyways? I would thought most would be **** boxes.

When they put brembos on an XT I am sure they will consider using them as a pursuit car.
If people stopped flogging themselves about power they will realise that the F6 has great handling and braking, just what is needed for pursuits. As for the price, remember (a) the govt gets them tax free ( except GST as it's fed ) and also get a special deal because of the volume of cars or the prestige.

My understanding is Govt purchases are list less 39%. Therefore the Govt pays approx $37,000 for the car. Keep it for 40000kms and sell it for $35,000. No stamp duty. A good deal for the Govt.
