That's either the standard filter, or a K and N that hasn't been oiled up.... If it was in a sealed box, I'd be inclined to say unoiled... Take it back to autobarn and get another one, or buy a can of oil and see how you go.

Bog stock paper one there. K&N's are dark red cotton gauze with black rubbery surround and mesh.

Do you have the receipt still?

Didn't it ring any alarm bells, when you pull a white filter out of a box that shows K&N's trademark red filters?

Re-sealing Box's isn't hard, if you are very carefull when opening them.

I'd say pretty good. Take it back to any outlet of the same store and they should refund it. The fact that the filter looks new is a good argument for you not just swapping it out yourself and pulling a swifty!

the k&N filters have a fine mesh covering inside the 'weave' of the filter webbing as opposed to just going across the top like that stock filter you shown

I bought this at retail price, then got my shaker and relisde it wouldn't be usable with it. Sold it to a member for $60 freighted at my own cost $10. Just refunded member $60 + $10 to send it back, so if its a scam I think these facts show I'm not the 1 pulling it

No, you're 100% innocent, however the only challenge will be convincing the shop of your dilemma!

Good luck
