This is second of the intermittent faults that I had in the past with my AU, It kind of went away, but I am scared it might happen again when I go for longer trips.
When driving around 100k/h or more on the freeways against strong winds, the engine will sometimes squeal and you have feeling like with that noise the car looses speed or power, therefore the car will slow down and the noise will disappear ..till next time again and again I had a feeling that it could have something to do with bearings on the cooling fans. Does it sound like a theory?

Are you getting overheating issues when the car is labouring against strong headwinds???
The thermos have been known to sowly die over time .. I just replaced mine at 200,000km as one of them was barely working. Is yours manual or auto???? Another thing I thought of is your serpentine belt might be slipping as well ... any oil leaks at all???? Is this with A/C on/off??? Just trying to ascertain why it could be happening.

Car never overheats, has travelled 80,000km, no major oil leaks (now that you mentioned, little one in the front of the engine) This happens with or without AC. CAR is auto...
