Default Dash LCD screen problem

Ok a few months ago i upgraded my standard S1 dash to fairmont dash. without changing wires i plugged it straight in and seen what worked and didnt. when i turned the lights on the LCD screen lights turned off and nothing else turned on, anyway i thought changing the wires like the forum said would fix this but it didnt. i did a crap job of wiring as i couldnt find a plug and still thought this was the problem. yesterday i made up proper plugs and did it all properly. the LCD screen is on when lights are off but when i turn the lights on it still turns off(just the lights for LCD screen). everything on the dash works fine except this. does anyone know what this could be. (my old dash didnt do this). its with the parkers on aswell and it makes a click noise when i turn it on

my mate did the exact same conversion using the info I sent him and everything works except for the low level coolant light flashes because the base model doesn't have that. If you want to double check P.M. me with your email address and I will send it to you as it clearly shows the plugs and how they are numbered with the wires.
