Can someone please tell me what sort of oil i should be putting in my AUII I6 now that it has about 190,000 on the clock? I think that 10/30W is too thin for an older car...
I have tried to search the forum for this however as usual the most important word in my search "oil" was ommitted from the search as it is too short of a word... Cheers, Simon. |

Perhaps try the thinner oil first, then see at the end of the first oil change interval, then if it's using a bit, you could try the thicker oil. Hope that helps. BTW, I use Penrite HPR GAS 10, which is 10W/50. Used Magnatec 10W/40 but for my usage, it was a little too thin. Others here find it to be ok though, maybe my engine's a bit looser than most. Penrite recommend this oil for AUs on gas and their standard HPR 10 for petrol. GK GK

I have used Valvoline XLD Premium 10/30 in my AU ever since I have owned it, with no problems at all.

I use whatever specification it says in the manual ... and I am over 200,000km.
I don't have issues with it yet and sounds fine with factory spec oil.

Out of curiousity, what would be the negative side effects of using thicker oil in my engine, if any?
Cheers, Simon. |

you would probably get noisy lifters on cold starts, possibly also use more fuel as the engine has to work harder to push thicker oil around....it depends on how worn the motor is really

EGAS models use 15W40 from factory ... so I guess the fuel injected models should be fine using this as well.
