i know a series 1 wont work in a series 2 so it would be vice versa, aparently you need to cut some wires or something.

thats what we're here for, always advice to be found, whether its good or bad advice im still yet to find out:P seriously, try looking through some of the tech articles, there are a few different wiring diagrams in there, you may find what your looking for, if not, take notes on what you do and post it up so we can all see how you go and offer hints, tips and advice as you go. i think thats the best possible way to do this.

Just do a search for cluster - there's been a few questions about these lately, and plenty of info. One thread has a link to fordmods which details what wires need to be changed between low and high series cars, but not too sure if it covers AU1 TO AU2 - I doubt it would, as the change to clusters between series is far greater than the low/high in the same series.

WOW, just put in the new XR S2 cluster in My AU S1 ute and works with no problems. No wire cutting no adjustments, nothing. Works perfectly......

I doubt it. There will be something that doesn't work. eg i think you'll find when you pull your handbrake on, the TC light lights up, or the brsake fail light - not the park brake light. There are a few other differences too, mostly in the warning lights rtaher than anything else.

What? Why they upgraded the cluster? There were extra features in AU2 that AU1 didnt get on some models (TC, for instance). Also they deleted the low coolant warning on some models in AU2, that AU1 did get,so no need for a wraning light for that one. There are always running improvements so the instruments and warning lamps are upgraded/changed as required. Imagine if they weren't - we'd all be using Model T instruments (none!?)

I have both clusters and the differences are enough for me to continue on with the au1 version.

ok, quick update. After driving at night and finding that i didn't have any lights in the cluster working and the right turn signal didn't work, i went to a place called gauge works and they re-wired it for $57.00 G.S.T. inclusive. Not too bad i'd say.

Pretty damn good price. So does everything that should work, work now?
