Default I need to borrow a stock AU XR6 for a day!

G'day guys,

In my quest to get my new car past engineers I have to go to NSW to find an engineer who wont make me take a $3000 epa test.

He has requested that to prove the car meets emissions that I put a stock automatic series 1 XR6 on a dyno and get the 4gas readouts. It is my job to make my car put out similar emissions to prove it meets ADR's.

Can anyone help me out in Victoria in the next few weeks? There could be cash or beer involved for your help.

Ill likley only need to run the car on the dyno 3 or 4 times. There wont be any wide open throttle runs or anything. He wants readouts for idle, 2000 rpm, 3000rpm, 4000 rpm etc.

I have to talk with him today to confirm if he will allow this still cos he only told me to suggest this to victorian engineers. He said the car had to be similar, so Im not sure if I can just use a forte, or fairmont, VCT, etc.

If I cant do it this way its a long drive to NSW to take a test for free that costs $3000 here.

Thanks guys
Dan.

Dan, I'd happily lend you mine but its VCT, has the exhaust and, worst of all, a chip. Would probably be under a stock car for emissions.

I will say to anyone out there who has a stock XR6, do Dan this favour, its worth it and whoever does it will get Donating Member status on aufalcon.com for their trouble.

Thanks heaps Casper! That would be awesome! I cant wait to get this car to cruising status. It looks sad in my driveway with no-one using it and the car cover on top :(

XRFPV8- Would many rental companies have 5 year old XR6's available? That would be the easiest option if I can find one. I didnt think of that!

Best and quickest way may be to hire one from a discount car hire company cost would be around $50 for the day with insurance..

Thanks guys, Casper Ill let you know what the engineer says once he calls me back.

I will have this test done locally so really the car just has to be stock-ish and have reasonable emissions I guess. The engineer wont know what kind of vehicle I am comparing it to.

I should put the EB on as the stock car

Wouldnt Ford have this kind of info? Might be worth calling the CRC, it'd sure hold a bit more sway coming from the manufacturer than just someone with a dyno.

The engineer has done a backflip on me! He says that I would need to do the comparison in front if him which sucks.

So now I have to book it into the RTA in NSW to have the official emission test done. I guess Ill have to find a tuner in NSW to help me out with making it meet. Any ideas?

you could try and get it tuned to low emmission specs down here based on an AU XR6's emmissions. Then get one of the NSW guys (maybe Darkhorse) to bring his car in to do the comparison?

Yeah that would work. I think Ill just go with the RTA test now though. Its seems simple enough to do and only takes 30 minutes to have done.

Ill ring up and book myself in once I can organise time off work. Does anyone know any decent tuners in NSW near penrith or botany?

Just remember, you'll need a Haltec qualified tuner too Dan.

Yep, My mechanic reckons he can do it easily if he has the software.

I was thinking If I borrow a stock car for a day and get the emissions tested on a dyno here and make my car as close as possible do you think I will pass the official test in NSW? That way I can add cats and a smaller exhaust and turn the boost down etc etc to make it nicer before I head to NSW for the real test. This would save a lot of messing about. This way I could use a forte or even a newer BA to make it harder and more likley to pass the official one.

Ill have to ask my mechanic what he thinks.

Thats what I was suggesting earlier. Get it all done here then just head up for the test and get a NSW AU XR6 "if" you need a comparison.

Ahh okay, its still to early for me I reread your post and feel a bit silly now. Sorry about that.

Ill go around and talk the mechanic in person in the morning, I can never remember anything over the phone. That seems like it should work. Ill try and find out exactly what the test involves to see if I can rig the outcome.

I cant wait to get this car legal!! It has to be the nicest car in my area!

yep most likely it will be at the penrith RTA. I still have to confirm a date and get time off work and things like that. Hopefully I can up there within a month.

Ill get the car pretuned down here and make the exhaust more emission friendly while Im at it.

Dan surely there are emission levels set in the ADRs that have to be met?
