Default Brakes

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but I need to get new rotors for my Falcon, I have premium brakes so I need to replace the rotors with an after market product that will fit my Tickford Calipers. I was wondering firstly, what the details are on the rotor size. And also what are the best pads to use to reduce the large amounts of dust I'm currently getting. Ford Quoted me $1300 to do the front which i think is a tad too much. Not overly happy with the rotors I have now, thought it might be time to go a set of DBA's or something similar. So if anyone has any suggestions on the best pads and rotors, please let me know. I was thinking of checking out EBAY as DBA often sell rotors through there.

Anyway, any help would be muchly appreciated.

Cheers

Dwayne

I'd just go for DBA slotted rotors, they are a great upgrade. The DBA website will have part numbers.

I dont know which pads are low dust, I'm using bendix ultimates and they are awesome but the wheels get a bit dusty, not as bad as I expected though.

The ones I have now get real dusty real quick. I've been told that the green pads are low dust. Maybe the dust is harder to see

What have you been smoking that you can't remember if you asked this question or not?

Yes - go the DBAs. Assuming the Premium brakes are the same ones as fitted to the T series, then these should do the trick:

Listed on DBA site under standard, slotted & gold series:
T-Series Tickford 1998 - on
F 506 Vented 329mm
R 501 Solid 287mm

So you need:
Front DBA506SL & DBA506SR (left and right slotteds)
Rear DBA501SL & DBA501SR (again, left & right slotted)
replace the S with an X if you want cross drilled and slotted (gold series)

Not me. I mean if someone else has asked the question.

The rotors are the slotted and the Calipers have the tickford logo on it. Hoops has these on his Pursuit and I'm pretty sure these were the ones that SButler was selling from his car last year sometime.

Anyway, thanks for the info, I will go check out dba. I read there is another company out that does rotors similar to DBA but cheaper yet but suppossed to be as good. I think it was street fords where I saw their ad.

RDA are the other company. I am looking at a set of their front slotted rotors to fit my AU1 at the moment. As for price, 2 new RDA slotted rotors were quoted as about $160.

Thats those guys. The person I spoke to said their rotors are very good. On par with DBA's. Must be a new company trying to get a foot in the door.

Thanks Shane

I tried their slotted and standards on a few of my AU2's.. they are not as good as DBA. They needed to machined every set of pads to remove the pedal bounce.

That was with Bendix Advance pads, not the Ultimates though, but you get what you pay for i guess as they are cheaper than the DBA's too

Thanks for the headsup Tibbo. Might look at the DBA's then.

Not really. I'll be coming to wakefield, but as a spectator only. I'm not into the track thing.

I need to get the brakes done. Ford says my rotors are undersized and new rotors are on the books. They gave me 5,000 k's as an estimate. I've done 3,000 to 4,000 since the service, so I think its time to start looking around. I fugure by August which is next service date, i should be just about ready to get the brakes done.

I am running RDA slotted rotors and bendix advance pads no probs in my AUII.

Better than stock with less dust to boot. Don't know if they are any worse than DBA but Cam at RDA there looked after me with a great price and cheap freight to Sydney so I was happy.

No problems mate, I gave everything and anything a shot when my stash of asbestos pads ran out and found the DBA were by far the best discs.. The slotted rotors needed alittle more care and machining but in my line of work the no fuss standards were the winner.

I think i'm gonna get DBA 4000 Series, slotted for the fronts, and just standard Slotted discs for the rear. Not sure yet whether to run Bendix Advance or EBC Green Stuff Pads yet.

Thanks for the offer. But I'm not sure I'm up for the challenge. Its got too many Kilowatts : I might pass out

Bucky, I have DBA 4506 on the fronts with Bandix Advance. Very good combo. The 4506 is the 4000 series version of the standard 506. In short, the 4000 series has better heat displacement and are less subjective to warpage. The wiper slot design works well, and there's no need for the cross drilled (**** factor) rotors if your car is 75% street driven.

So the part # you need for the DBA fronts is 4506. Stay well away from those RDA rotors, how can I say this? Well.. let's just say they're absolutely crap, and I'm being very nice.

Exactly..

I had a standard set up on mine and when JC and I (more JC) put that combo all round the car pulled up really well.. Can only imagine would be even better with a bigger rotor and caliper.

Thanks guys for your insight. Its good to hear info on all the options. As its been suggested DBA's with the bendix seems to be the go.

I was after the slotted cross drilled, but I'm not even going to bother. I'm not that hard on the brakes so slotted will do the trick.

Maybe I might go do something out of the ordinary and go trackside oneday. I have some mods planned for the running gear, so it could be a good opportunity to do a before and after run down the strip. Not Wakefield, but maybe WSID. Could be on the books.
