Talking Wat type of AU is best?

G'day Guys,
I am in the market for a car. Was going to take a loan and go crazy and purchase eithor a BA or BF f6 or GT. After knocking some sense into myself, I have decided on sticking a loan up my *** and not bothering. Im only 21 and dont want to find myself in debt... just yet. So.. i have decided I am now looking at AU's. Y? Well i dont want a stock standard BA XT.. so thats out of the q, would rather go for somethen a lil older with a lot more extra. More for my money i guess.
Now.. what type of AU should i buy. I have decided i want an 8! 220kw 8 would be good.. so ... for q number 1...
what models did this engine come in?
secondly.. what au do you think is best?
Oh and yes.. i would prefer a manual... however wat is the auto like with the 8? any good?

cheers guys!

The 220kw engine came out late in the AUII. AUII had bigger better brakes and a few other niceties over AUI aswell so you should go for one of them. Auto with the 8 is good, especially if you are lazy like me lol. AUIII is probably the pick as it is the newest.

as said above, go for a s3, for the money you would be able to bargain one down to it would be about the same as people are trying to sell ba xt's for anyway

id go a Fairmont Ghia V8 or a Fairlane Ghia V8 (one here in tville for 15k) manuals are rare as a good holden (maybe not in the V8 market)

id go either those two cause i think they had the same engine as XR?? but nicer interior for about the same price...why not and fairlane cause thats the sexiest falcon ever produced same as the fairmont luxury and a V8 what else is there

No, Fairmont got 175kw motor and Fairlane Ghia got 185kw motor. Neither got the 200 or 220kw versions.

Buy mine!

I would go:

Any "T" series

AU3 Fairmont Ghia or Fairlane Ghia V8
AU3 XR 8
AU2 Fairmont Ghia or Fairlane Ghia V8
AU2 XR 8

That would be my list in order of preference.

I have the AU3 Fairmont Ghia V8, would have been a T series but could not afford one at the time.

I'm very happy with the luxury over the engine power (175 V's 200 or 220) as power can be added later (When you get bored of the 175kw).

Pazza,
Whats your budget? :evilsasmo

There is an AU based T3 5.6L stroker currently advertised for about $27k at a VIC car yard. I reckon you could do $25k or better...so if that is within your ball park then take a look. It's on trading post and just do a search on TE50.

BUT first...check that you can get insurance. I'm 27 and had issues getting the TE50 insured as 99% of coys wanted 30+ drivers only.

Sorry FRDTUF...didn't mean to make him stray :Up_to_som

You would be a complete NUTTER to buy an XR8 (any XR8 for that matter) over a T series.

Atleast with a T it will be worth something one day, and not every mofo has them. Buy that T, or the black one thats for sale for $19k.

Absolute bargins of the century, pity the older T's hardly ever (that I can remember) come in a manual.

Nothing wrong with a well priced XR8 Al, particularly if you find one on LPG....... and blue.

Thats true, I didn't mean to bag the XR8, but seriously, if you had the choice its pretty hard to go past a T1 or T2; $$ / prestige and power; it doesn't get much better than that!

Thanks GTP - but i do agree with polyal too. If you can stretch to the T, go for it. If not, I can tell you that mine is not a bad car to "settle" for.

All depends on what you prefer, quad lights or no quad headlights. I think we all know what I prefer.

T1 series.. best bargain AU. They're so nice and you can have one for the same price if not maybe cheaper than a BA XT, especially the TE50.

Don't expect any change out of $200 per month, may be even more than that.

I bought an AU3 XR8 ute over a T series, could have bought a T1 or T2 but chose not to. Why? Easy. Insurance would have killed me, I didnt want a sedan, and I didnt want a T-Series as a daily driver. Do I regret my choice? Not a bit.
