Default WTF is wrong with my auto?

I can't work it out!

I did a service on the auto today. Drained all the fluid and exchanged the filter.

Then I tried to clip in the new filter. Well bugger me that clip will not go back on. I tried putting the old filter back in. Same problem! It seems that it is sitting too far down at the front end. There is no reason why that I can see, everything is seated correctly.

Has anyone had this before, or does anyone have a suggestion?

The clip is a pain to stretch back in but it goes in fairly easy once you know how to go about it. A few more swear words will usually do the trick.

I tried every combination of swear words I could think of, it didn't make a difference. Any other suggestions? Anyone got a busted transmission they can sell the clip out of?

Darn Ford clever clips. Fuel hose connectors, auto trans, power steering lines, :yeees:!

I'm sure my AUs have many, many more, just waiting to be discovered, just waiting to cause distress! e

If anyone has a picture that would be a great help but there is only one way I can see for it to go back on.

I just had the same problem, the old rubber ring from the filter is still in the hole, you need to remove it first and then install the new filter with the rubber ring.

Thanks for the suggestion but I removed the old ring before attempting to install the new one

IIRC there is one hole you hook into and one little "shelf" the other side sits on.

I normally grab some grips and use those to hook onto the little shelf. (I put the one in the hole first).

All of the above suggestions (swearing, holding tongue right etc... ) are all valid too.

I am normally swearing about the green ants that are stinging me, and the ATF that is dripping into my eyes.

Can you buy the clip separate from Ford?
Or will they try sell me an auto?

Anyone got a busted tranny they can take the clip out of?
