Default starter motor

i have a 69 cortina 1600 crossflow i am rebuilding.the ring gear on the flywheel goes on from the engine side but it has a pull style starter motor on it & the ring gear has moved a bit.i am under the impression that the flywheel is standard but the starter could be wrong.i have been told if i put a pushstyle starter on it i might have to change the bellhousing has anyone had this problem
