Why a Capri for or against

Firstly I have to state I love the Capri, but why for me it it answers all the questions and ticks all the boxes that I love about cars. My first car was a Hyundai lasted 3 hours till my girlfriend crashed it into a tree then a Volvo 142 two door you can imagine why I bought that one but never really got it running. Then bought a 2 ltr pinto Capri that also had a computer that told me when my door was open my radiator was hot or lights were on and that was in 1990. My love grew from there the fact that I could squirt water with a peddle to my windscreen fascinated me and I fell in love. Owned 7 capris before now and the love affair is back with major passion, times for me have gone by and successfully after my now misses made me get rid of them all I'm back baby and really would not buy anything else. So what is it just me or the fact it is so light weight, takes any motor you want handles beautifully or just the front and rear that orgasmic. I don't know but what a car saw a top gear episode of the worlds worst cars where they compared the v6 Capri to the mustang and many others saying it works but all else fails. I love this car and now own a perana just bought my number plate from my plates which reads AFORD1 which is in the v8 super cars style. Happy man. Keith

I've loved Capris since I was 20. Wanted a Mustang from the age of 17, but having owned capris since I was 23, wouldn't buy a Mustang now.
My first capri was a 1600 auto and I've owned pretty much every model since, V6s, 2lt and V8s, Windsor and Clevo!!!
Unfortunately, I'm downsizing now so the 3 that I own will be whittled down to one over the next few years.

...ever since the ABC school-student current affairs program Behind The News in 1971. Saw a 'film' (i.e. before video was invented!!) about the styling of the Capri, and the Capri in the Ford design centre wind tunnel undergoing testing. All those little tell-tales around that big swage down the side...ah, heaven.
1x '69 1600GT was sold in '83 when I became a full time uni student (very rare now!!)
2x V6's concurrently for near on 20yrs now whittled down to one after project completion

40yrs on and still very distinctive
The dude at the tyre place last Tues started to get all excited when I was loading the new trailer tyres into the boot.

Yeah for me I fell in love with the capri when I was about 21 and was building a minitruck. My good mate from down the street was helping me from time to time and one day I went down to his place and noticed this little blue car under a tarp. I asked what it was and he pulled off the cover and whammo it was love at first sight.

I kept working on my minitruck and made him promise that if he ever sold it he would have to sell it to me and he agreed. It was an ordinary 1600 model but it was just the shape and style of the car. Small light, classic and not over done in styling. It just looked so comfortable sitting there. I looked all over the car and just thought there's nothing I can find that I don't like.

So about 10 years later I was driving my completed minitruck (with sr20 turbo mind you) and I found out his mum had sold his capri while he was living overseas and man I was crushed. Most of the time I was working on my truck I was wishing it was a capri.

So by this time I have a wife, 2 kids and a mortgage. It took another 2 years for me to decide to take the plunge and sell my truck and hunt down a v6 capri. So now the restoration is in full swing (see the project cars section of the forum for all the pics)

Hoping to be driving it by February.

Anyway that's my story.
