My wife bought this car about 12 years ago (before we met) and she has had it at a workshop for 8 years while they 'did some work' on it.
We picked it up last week and I'm not happy to say the least. Anyway I've signed up to get some community knowledge and advice on fixing this car for her... and sadly yes it stays pink, I can't convince her otherwise. 1. I need to wire up the car, hardly anything works. So a wiring layout would be great so I can troubleshoot issues 2. The manifold is barely held together, are there replacement manifolds available on the market? 3. Dash will need to be removed, gauges do not work (except the speedo) so this relates to a wiring diagram Also could someone please tell me what the two upper switches on the dash (see photo) are for and where can I purchase replacements? What a beautiful capri. OK so its not a factory color but in a lineup of capris this will stand out. Dont try and change it.
The switches should be,. lowest, windsreen wiper, next panel light switch, next driving light switch, top blank. |

......top blank.
or in my case, thermatic fan override, using a single speed heater fan switch. PM your email, and I will send PDFs of wiring. Does the car run at all? (i.e. ignition circuit OK?) Manifolds - V6 Pacemaker headers approx $500+ (eBay again)...and I'm sure there are other brands around. Do some Googling...... Switches: 1. eBay Malakomorza (Poland) does refurbushed switches e.g. Ford Capri mk1 switch 1968-72 RS2600 XLR XL for GBP39 + GBP 5 postage Don't often see NOS switches any more, except some recently listed for AUD 275 !!! 2. eBay aninastella had some new switch cover plates (but not currently) ....all at a price of course. |

Thank you all very much for the information. I'll have to bump up my post count to 5 before I can send a PM Allan but I definitely will take you up on the offer.
I was hoping that the dash lights were not working because the switch was not turned on.. alas that is not the case. There is not much room under the dash. |

Love these cars, I remember a Wild Violet one getting around on RAAF Amberley in the early eighties, awesome stuff.

it IS worth the time to get it up to spec
is that the real mileage /km even has the clock .. nice yes extractors are the way to go keep the original am radio even if you put in something better it wont need a flux capacitor ... that capri will be a blast to drive finding a repair manual might be a bit harder

Terry, wiring- thanks, beat me to it.
Re Radio, DO NOT CUT that plastic fascia to fit your modern. Repro fascias are $100s of dollars. With some nice shiny new switches, your fascia will look fantastic. Put your modern player somewhere else. I disassembled my ashtray mount from tray unit, made a box for the modern, and re-hung in same place. Hangs down a bit but your dash is not chopped. Others have put the modern CD player in the passenger parcel shelf area, or go for some where else. A very individual car, in a nice way !! Does the colour match the 1970 Playmate of the Year prize ...Mercury Capri in Playmate Pink of course. http://jalopnik.com/5536844/playmate...-1964-to-2010/ |

Hi there, I have your switches, reco to as new. The ones fitted to your car currently don't look right. The 1970 had 2 different types of dash lights switch depending on the month made (6 pin or 2 pin). You will need to let me know which yours has.
I have some spare manifolds I can help you with a lot of parts my email is jrgtv6@yahoo.com.au |
