Kia GT green lit for production
Kia has confirmed it is secretly developing a production version of the GT concept that was first shown at the 2011 Frankfurt motor show. The news follows confirmation from Kia Australia in June that it will launch a large rear-wheel drive four-door ‘coupe’ — powered by a twin-turbo V6, priced from about $40,000 and probably called the Stinger — here in the third quarter of next year. According to Autocar, the Korean car-maker’s new flagship sedan is being developed under the ‘CK’ codename and will stay true the original GT concept’s low-slung four-door coupe design. Apart from a biturbo V6, Autocar says Kia’s new four-door rear-drive sedan will come with an entry-level 2.0-litre petrol engine that will boast at least 235kW. Originally, it was hoped Kia would make a Toyota 86-rival based on the 2014 GT4 Stinger concept but, speaking at a recent Kia event in Korea, design boss Peter Schreyer told the British magazine: “Two-door coupés are a little bit on the decline. It would be nice to make a new coupé, but if there is no demand, what’s the point?” When asked about the halo car rumoured to be in development, the design director commented: “I think that acceptance or demand for two-door models has changed. “I think it’s more towards four-door coupés or saloons, or coupé-like saloons, if that’s what you want to call them.” According to Autocar, the standard output for the new turbocharged 3.3-litre V6 ‘Lamda’ engine that is being created for the Hyundai group’s premium Genesis brand will be around 285kW, but the new engine could be boosted to a more muscular 320kW. If that’s the case, the new GT might benefit from the Korean car-maker’s heavy investment in a performance division to develop the Hyundai N brand. Led by former BMW M division engineer, Albert Biermann, the result could be a high-performance version that could see the Kia c http://www.motoring.com.au/kia-gt-gr...uction-103315/

I don't see it as a substitute for Falcon/Commodore until someone brings out a sedan shape with six-cylinder engines.

Turbocharged 6 cylinder RWD sounds ideal for tuning.
Are the side mirrors just really tiny or invisible? |

But why not its has 4 doors and a six cylinder engine RWD it just has a coupe/hatch type back rather than a boot. though the article doesn't indicate how big it is. Probably a bit too sporty looking

Concept design says Cameras for mirrors - not sure if that would be allowed just yet.

The turbo 4 potter may be in the 40's but the V8 would probably be over 50k.

Ugly grille, or lack thereof, but the rest of it looks the goods in that shot.

Kia Australia have commented recently that this new sedan will arrive at an opportune moment as the local car industry closes down, and therefore provide an option for those that used to buy RWD Commodores and Falcons.
Also, they have also indicated that the 4 cylinder turbo will be circa $40,000, with the V6 turbo sitting above that.

A nice stainless octagon mesh style grill would be better, even te50 style mesh, its not a bad looking car but the grill and wheels suck.

From the only picture shown the rear half has a Maserati look.
$40-50k with a 7yr warranty & 320kw sounds good. Front could do with a little less clutter otherwise I like it. |

Tolerable, needs to be driven to get a proper opinion. But the Kia badge has got to be the most unimaginative, boring, $2 shop looking badge on this planet. Makes hyundai's crooked Honda badge look half decent in comparison. Maybe the car would be half tolerable if it had a blue Ford oval fitted instead. Wait, isn't that what Ford did to make the Festiva . The geniuses at FoMoCo realised the Kia badge was the same shape as a Ford oval and the rest was history.

One has to wonder why. Look at the stats for Falcon, since 1998 it has been on a downward spiral, with a small glimmer of light in 2002/03, then it continued downward. Reasons for this? Better competition, better quality and people earning better money so they can afford something a little more prestigious. Then you need to look a cost of manufacturing here, etc. Ford killed the Falcon long ago, when they persisted in leaving it in the dark ages. The only saving grace of the car are the engines' power. So before mounting that fine looking high horse of yours, it'd be better to dig a little deeper and understand more why Falcon (and Commodore) are disappearing instead of blaming a car that as come in near on 18 years after Falcon started to begin it's descent. Incidentally, you've driven this car? Just curious, you said it was crap, I'd just like to better understand your reasoning behind it? What part of it didn't live up to expectation?

I like it. It seems to me to be a bit of an entry level discount Merc CLS which isn't a bad thing. The picture is only a concept too so it's going to look different once it's being sold. It looks like a clay model they've shown.
Everything has to evolve and move on eventually so I guess these '4 door coupes' are where the industry is taking the traditional sedan. I'd expect a lot more of this style of car over the next decade. Especially once electric becomes more mainstream, and there won't be the issue of storage since there'll be no engine in the front. And who could be disappointed about a 320Kw rear wheel drive saloon? Falcon and Commodore are just about done so it's time to either move on or stay stuck in the past. No point sooking about the wrong badge when the one you like is dead.

That's right - crap is better than shyte. Mate I for one couldn't give a flying **** that the falcon is dead - its been dead for a long time, its heart stop beating years ago, its been on life support with no hope of recovery and the plug is finally about to be pulled. The falcon is like comparing a nursing home resident to a 20 year old - there's no comparison, unless of course you like old and boring.

Falcon just fell out of fashion, people stopped caring about them I mean there is a whole lot of kids running around trying to catch digital animals on there phones the world has changed and not totally for the better. I'm glad I just grabbed a nice xw falcon to do up, it's one last chance for me to live the great era before Kia came along and wrecked everything ;)
