Angry After 5 an half years 137500kms Car dies

I have had a faultless run out of my Fairmont V8,until today. Came out to start it and nothing, except instrument idiot lights and odometer flashing. !! RACQ checked the likely causes, dead battery,no, alternator charging yes.Wouldn't jump start. RACQ said it could be a dead starter motor. So its been towed to Demacs, see what they say monday.
mmm...new Mondeo ???
Can't really complain, I have a good run out of the Fairmont.

I suggest you try a jump start . any noise from the starter ?
might be needing a nice new one.. couple of hundred or a rebuilt for $149.00

Jump start direct to the starter? I would only do that if the starter was removed and on a test bench, dont want it grabbing ring gear or jamming in gear now :P

Doesn't sound like a big issue mate... 6 months ago I was driving along and the auto gearbox in my 1989 camry died. It was a $980 fix, more than the car was worth. 6 months later read: last week... I sold the car for $500.

You should be pleased in comparison :P

So you are giving up on the car now? It has served you for five years and a component has worn out and now you want to get rid of it.

Sad very sad.

Tech Trainer I was being funny ! The car has been a dream run, compared to some of the horror stories on this site.

MNM 96 $95 for a new starter motor sounds cheap. I hope thats what the problem is.and that is the cost of a starter motor.See what DENMAC says monday.

If it's been towed the it's too late now
But if you put the ignition to ON and remove the starter relay, then bridge out the two contacts (sorry not sure what positions they are in off the top of my head - maybe the left one and the right one?) the starter should turn. If it doesnt then it will be the starter motor. That rules out the BEM and inhibitor switch.

UPDATE...Car fixed, no cost, by DENMAC FORD. Problem was the battery.Battery was only 15 months and replaced under warranty. I am still curious as to why car wouldn't start when RACQ attempted to jump start it ?
FORD test showed battery 102cca out of 520cca,new battery and it started no probs.
I expected to be charged a service fee for trying to locate the problem, but no charge, all free. So despite some horror stories on this site about FORD Service, DENMAC's gets 10/10.

The guys at DENMAC deserve a good plug they have saved my backside so many times on annoying niggly issues which some dealers would have done otherwise wanted your 1st born child for.

/pat on back Denmac
