My main plan was to build a car I could use for anything at anytime without any fear...I wouldn't have thought it was going to be a V8 Kombi 20 years ago!!!!

Great work EB_V8_2U!
I recall a 4.4 Kombi getting around the Picton NSW area 15-odd years ago. It sounded crazy, and looked crazier when it got sideways under power on the dirt road past my friend's house : ) I'm still wondering what to put in mine; thanks for the inspiration!

Speaking of these crazy buses, there was a White Toyota Tarago getting around the Sunshine Coast (an alternative to mobi-tow) with what sounded like a Chev, and theres a newer shape one on ebay with the Toyota supercharger setup, driftbus.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/toyota-tarago...QQcmdZViewItem Although I recall a Landcruiser dropped on its guts with probably 20" rims being used for drift too. I think it was an 80 series. It did look good. |

I would love to hook a snatch strap up to that Tarago and drag it through the bush...just to see whats left of it at the other end.
Things like that amuse me!

That datto donk would have been great.
The Leylands are famous for running hot so I have played it safe.

It would be interesting to see the blown Tarago on a track sideways torquesteering behind/infront of a Skyline or 180sx/Silvia whatever. |

Sounds like the Chevarago could hold it's own...and besides that, it's a V8 so I like it. Are those Taragos rear wheel drive?

Yeah I was wondering how the hell you would drift it if it wasn't.
I'm sure if you drove it off a cliff it would drift a little.

G'Day neeek,
Just letting you know that the kombi you speak of is actually my good mates step dad's kombi. The car is blue with purple airbrushing all over it. The paint is worth $8000 but got it for free as his mate owns a custom paint business. My mates dad also owns "All star tattoos", if you have heard of them. But yeh has a 2 litre boxer, custom intercooled, manual boost controller(don't know how much), turbo back exhaust, turbosmart BOV, dunno if it is running the stock turbo or not? I'm pretty sure it has been converted to just a rear wheel drive, modified boxer 5 speed gear box aswell. It has purple neons underneath and in the car aswell, custom stereo setup and retrimmed interior. It has chrome 17's aswell. I dont know exactly what kind of power it is putting out but i know it toasts most other standard wrx's and sorry to say it but V8's aswell. the plates are personalised black with gold letters 'VWRX'. I have personally had the pleasure of riding in this beast and boy does it go, especially when the turbo starts spoolin'. You may or may not be happy to hear that he is actually thinking about selling it. Any way, hope that answers a couple of your questions. Last edited by plext; 11-07-2008 at 09:21 PM. Hi All,
My V8 Leyland P76 powered bus is done (for now) and she is once again the daily driver. I ended up giving it a baked enamel paint job in the end. LIBERATOR \Lib"er*a`tor\ (l[i^]b"[~e]r*[=a]`t[~e]r), n. [L.] One who, or that which, liberates; a deliverer. [1913 Webster].

My mates brother has VW Combi with a WRX Turbo in it. It would definitely make the perfect sleeper.

A few years ago there used to be a white combi down the goldy with a rexxie engine in it, and the back "hole" where the engine is was full of intercooler, not sure how affecting it was but it looked damn cool! thing looked very stock, complete with side curtains
Also, around the corner from my old place theres a grey combi thats been converted to a ute, and runs some kind of V8 under it, sounds like it could be a weezer under it, but not too sure

My Dad had a 74 Kombi years back and did the swap with a Subaru L-series boxer. He had lots of issues with cooling though as he ran galv piping instead of copper, something he would have revisitied if he had the time before he got rid of it.
I remember seeing an ad years ago for a company in Qld that did flywheel adaptors to fit a plethora of engines. How about an Alfa boxer? ;)

Hi Lethal,
The Leyland Alloy V8 is known for running hot, when in a P76. That's why I didn't muck around with the cooling system. It may be a little ugly out the front, but it works perfectly. The guy in QLD you mentioned is Volksconversions, he has been around forever making adapter plates.
